The York Gallery; Sunday [ 04/13 ]

It hadn't occurred to Charlotte until that day, really, how nicely things with the gallery had fallen into place. Perhaps it was just the good mood left over from the successful second date last night (although she did feel she might have drank just a smidgen too much), but everything was coming up nicely and she hadn't even planned it. With the gallery open only five days, the kids had taken the bulk of them, leaving the nice quiet Sundays for Charlotte to be left with manning the reception desk, but this also allowed her to be around to orchestrate the nice little afternoon tea luncheons she wanted available on Sundays.

And, of course, the Satoshi Matsuyama exhibit was displayed in all its very bright colored glory, and the York Gallery was open!

It was a Sunday and Romeo and Yurika were both a)actually out of bed and b) doing something vaguely enriching.

Go, them.

He reached for her hand as he stood before the first painting.

"It's so green."

Go them, indeed.

"It is." Yurika had to resist the temptation to reach out and touch the painting, and Romeo's hand made a good distraction. "It almost looks like it's moving."

"Like you could, if you knew the right words, open the painting to step in and pick those flowers or jump in the lake," Romeo nodded, squeezing the hand. "More real than real."

"This is Fandom, so you never know," she joked. "Maybe if we say the magic words, we can go for a swim? Although it still looks a little chilly for that, maybe we'll have to go there (http://www.love-peace-happiness.com/gallery/breath_of_heaven/)," she said, pointing at the next one.

"If I can ever say magic words and get anything to happen, we'll have only Fandom to blame," Romeo nodded.

He smiled at the painting she was pointing to. "It looks like Hawaii, but even more lush."

"I guess we'll just have to watch our wishes, then, since we'll never know if the island is listening." Yurika squeezed his hand lightly as she leaned her head on his shoulder. "Hawaii? That's a state, right? Is it near your California?" American geography was still rather nebulous for her, clearly.

"I think I am happier without a drop of magic in me," Romeo said, reaching up to touch the ends of her hair. "So I pray the island doesn't decide to change that."

"It's a state," he agreed, frowning because geography beyond Verona walls wasn't his strong suit either. "But it's an island, in the Pacific. I've no idea where, exactly, only that it's not a very long flight."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I don't know. I think you must have some magic," she said, smirking. "In the Pacific, yeah, I know it's a short flight from Japan. I probably passed over it, and over your home, on my way here."
withoutverona: (B+ W grin)

"You would know better than I," he grinned. "Since you get to be from a world with magic."

He closed his eyes, imagining the journey she described, then gestured to a canvas. "I think I might have made them stop the plane, if it meant seeing something like that."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm...but magic at home can be dangerous," she said, "just like you and all your smooth words." The lilt to her tone made it clear that she was kidding, and Yurika squeezed his hand again before turning her attention to the next canvass.

And she gasped. "Sugoi...these are all real places, right? I wonder how he found that, it's beautiful."
withoutverona: (laughing)

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Words are a powerful weapon," he pointed out, eyes twinkling as he ran a thumb over the back of her hand. He didn't think magic would count for much if it couldn't be dangerous.

"Are they all meant to be real?" He looked startled. "There are some beautiful places I've seen, but these are almost too perfect."

"I think they're all photos, but he, ah, tweaks them? On the computer?" She stepped away from him slightly to read on the cards on the wall. "So, real made imaginary, perhaps?"
withoutverona: (I see my destiny)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Real but more than real," Romeo agreed, stepping back so he could read the card as well. "The colors," he said, a bit shyly, "are not unlike home, really. But we don't have ..." he gestured, indicating the sky, the mountains, the water in the paintings. "all the rest of it."

Dōjima blinked and looked back at him. "Your colors are like this? Really?" she asked, grinning slightly. "Well, that explains your fondness for bright shirts. Everything here must look rather colorless in comparison."
withoutverona: (Greetings from Verona)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"As much as they can be without the computers," he nodded. "I thought Fandom was gray, as well as cold and miserable, for weeks."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I think that Fandom in January is cold, gray, and dismal, no matter what world you're from," Dōjima said. "It was really depressing, I'm used to the neon lights and constant rush of cities, so the first few nights were hard. It was almost too quiet to sleep."

"You would think with all the oddness on this island, someone could fix winter," Romeo said wistfully, and gave her a careful look, realizing he had never asked a horribly obvious question. "Did you grow up in Tokyo, then? And how did I not ask that?"

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Yup, full-time, until I was ten," she confirmed, looking carefully at the painting. Ooo! Turtles! "Then it was off to various boarding schools. Some were in Tokyo, others were in different parts of Japan, or even Europe. But they never lasted long, and Tokyo's home."
withoutverona: (Talking)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Romeo nodded, taking this in. "I had hardly left Verona, except for vacations, but I'm almost starting to think Fandom might be home," he admitted. "Or close enough. Closer than I thought it could be."

He stepped in front of the next painting and wryly added, "Unless I find a way to just go live there."

"You want to live in that little house with no walls?" she asked, giggling. "Better hope it never rains there!"

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
He'd almost been getting serious; he should have known Yurika would tease him out of it. "If I'm living in a painting anyhow," he replied, poking her int he ribs, "I'd think more grandly, and just spend all my time swimming with the whales."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Dōjima looked at him skeptically. "Allllllll your time? You'll need to sleep sometime, and I doubt that the whales cuddle nicely."
withoutverona: (B+ W grin)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
He was trying very hard not to laugh. "Are you offering to come into the painting with me, then, for purposes of cuddling? The artist can't show all -- perhaps there's a very nice inn just beyond the hills."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Why not? Someone needs to keep an eye on you," she teased. "Maybe there's a whole herd of cabana boys hiding behind a tree, waiting to serve me drinks while I lounge on the sand. You never know, with a painting like that."
withoutverona: (mesmerized)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
He pouted at her. "So who will keep an eye on me, if you're being tended to be a herd of cabana boys?" Romeo asked. "Or would you leave me to the whales?"

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"If you're with the whales, I can watch you while I lounge," she pointed out. "Unless you had other activities planned, in which case I may have to tag along. Just be sure you stay out of trouble."
withoutverona: (another kissy icon)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"And I'm sure I would be grateful to you for that, sometime, when I wasn't with the whales," he told her, leaning in for a kiss.

It just felt like that kind of moment. And it wasn't like the art gallery was crowded.

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't crowded, and Yurika was happy to oblige his desire for a kiss.

"We're just going to have to find the magic words, then," she quietly murmured against his lips once they had stopped for air. "To let us into that other world."
withoutverona: (flirty)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmmmm." He leaned in, resting his head against her hair, hands entwining with hers, almost breathless. "Though I'm rather a fan of this world just now."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yurika smirked slightly, closing her eyes to simply enjoy being there with him. It was nice. "Oh really? It's not too dull and dreary for you anymore?"
withoutverona: (lips only)

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-04-14 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
He wasn't smirking; he was about as serious as he ever was when he was flirting.

"I think," he whispered, considering, "spring must be coming to the island."

Re: The Main Gallery -- 04/13

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
That earned him another kiss before Yurika pulled back, laughing as she tugged him along to another piece of artwork (http://www.love-peace-happiness.com/gallery/softly_as_in/). "I wonder what gave you that impression!"

They had managed to get out of the dorm today. It would be a shame to miss the rest of the exhibit, after they had come so far.

Romeo let himself be tugged along; a few kisses were one thing, but more than that really would be a waste of their time in the gallery.

"Oh, this and that, or perhaps just my own crazy thoughts," he said, genially enough. "... I almost want to climb up that tree, just to have a good view of such a sunset."
