The Arms Hotel Lobby, Monday [4/14]

Mary was a little late getting downstairs to the front desk because she couldn't find her shoes. When she got to the lobby, there was no sign of any weetiny sheep and Gunther had already put out the specials board. Unless someone said something to Mary, she never would have known.

Who never had a little lamb.

River stopped by the hotel in the morning and smiled at Mary.

River had picked a really good day, as Mary was feeling pretty cheerful now that she had made up with George Michael.

"Hi River!" said Mary. "What brings you in today?"

"Just a question," River said. "Will be visiting a friend this weekend. Could I finish early on Friday?" Mary's good mood was quite vivid in her mind.

"That won't be a problem. Gunther can watch the lobby and call me if he needs anything," said Mary.

River had expected it not to be a problem. She smiled at Mary. "Thank you." Then she held out a paper bag containing a few cranberry and mustard cookies.

Knowing River's cooking, Mary knew what to expect. She tried one of the cookies and smiled, even if it was just a bit too spicy for her tastes. "Oooh, this is delicious. You have to give me the recipe sometime," she said.

River grinned, understanding how Mary's real feelings differed from her words, but appreciated her Mary-ness. "Will see you on Friday," she said.

I have no excuse.
