The Perk, Saturday Morning

Simon had just arrived, and River had immediately suggested a breakfast at the Perk. Simon looked tired, and she didn't need to talk to him to find out why. He had no need to put things into words for her either.

She ordered coffee and apple cake for them both, while Simon found them a table by the window.

"The food here is certainly worth a visit," he said, attempting to sound cheerful.

"Better reason than my graduation?" River raised an eyebrow, then grinned. "No need to answer that. You always come for me. I know that."

Parker had buzzed in to get coffee and popcorn for the ceremony, and grinned when she saw River and Simon. "Hey, you! Congratulations!"

"Parker!" River gestured for her to take a seat.

"You must be Simon-- I think we met, briefly, at one of the Parents' Weekends," Parker said, holding out her hand. "Hello. Having fun yet?"

Simon shook her hand. "Nice to meet you again. I just arrived." He looked at his sister. "Are we supposed to expect something entertaining?"

River just smirked in reply.

Parker looked at River and grinned. Ever tell him about the aliens at the last ceremony? "They're usually pretty lively," she said. "At least mine was, last year. Hopefully not *that* lively, though."

"I guess there are things like too lively," Simon replied, imagining people getting excessively drunk and getting into fights.

"Hopefully the school won't blow up this year," River said cheerfully.

"Such a pain, all that construction work," Parker agreed, trying not to chuckle.

Simon looked from Parker to River, a worried frown on his face. "Blow up the school?"

"Probability of it happening again is quite small," River told him.

"Incredibly small," Parker assured him. "After all, no one likes to be a copy-cat."

"That's a relief," Simon managed. "So you graduated last year?"

"Visited Parker in Oxford recently," River informed him. "We stole a boat."

"We gave it back. Eventually." Parker grinned. "It wasn't like it was a big boat."

Simon chuckled. "That's what they teach you here?" he teased.

"Hey, Miss Valedictorian's learned a lot." Parker cocked an eyebrow. "And as I understand it, stealing a boat might come in handy where you guys are."

"It does," he admitted, then looked at River. "And you know I'm proud of you."

"Next time we steal a ship." River tried to sound cheerful.

"Yeah. Next time we will." At least we can hope. "I'm going to miss her way too much," Parker said to Simon. "If you guys ever need anything, you should know you can just get in touch with me."

"Thank you." The offer was serious and his reply too.

River just smiled a little at Parker. "Will miss you too," she said quietly.
