The Perk, Saturday morning

After getting a phone call to let him know that his guests from New York had finally showed up, Peter hurried down to the Perk to meet them. This was partially because he was excited to see them. It was also partially because he was afraid the island might get invaded by knife-wielding gibbons or something.

Also, because it was early and coffee was a good idea.

Mary Jane and May walked into the Perk. May looked like she desperately needed some caffeine. Mary, on the other hand, looked excited as she made her way over to Peter. "So this is the place! The place where all of the crazy stuff happens! Where are the gremlins?"

"They usually live in the dorms," Peter explained. He stood up to hug MJ "So you're probably not going to see them. Hopefully. If you do, don't let them bite you."

"I still choose to believe the gremlin thing is a joke," May said. "How are you, Peter?"

"Total joke. I don't know why I even mentioned it to you," Peter said. "I'm good. I'm graduating. I'm pumped enough that I think the coffee is probably a bad idea and I'm just going to be extra-jumpy all day."

"Drink more, it'll be funny," Mary said. "You're still coming back for my graduation next week, right?"

As it turned out, next week was Finals for Mary Jane, which is why she and May didn't show up last night (MJ still had school yesterday) and were leaving tonight. Mary Jane needed time to study. ~~Conveniently, her schedule mirrors her player's availability.~~

"Of course," Peter said.

[OOC: Heading off for a bit, okay, me?]

"You still need to get some more of your things for your new apartment," May said. "Speaking of which, when am I going to properly meet the girl you're moving in with?"

There was a very Motherly tone in that question. It made Peter look scared and MJ look amused.

[OOC: Hey, I'm back early. This place has free wifi. Huzzah!]

"Soon! She's here this weekend, too," Peter said, discreetly sending a text message (http://swerval-zero.livejournal.com/2399.html?thread=765535#t765535). "She can't wait to properly meet you, too."

It seemed that neither of them considered 'walking in with the injured boy after he'd been kidnapped for a couple days just before the old woman had a heart attack' to be a proper meeting.

"Okay, I'm going to let you guys catch up," Mary said. "I want to check this place out a little more before the ceremony."

How dare she leave while he was getting pressed about his girlfriend by his aunt! Peter gave MJ a betrayed look. BETRAYED! "Have fun. And if any gremlins attack, just yell. Somebody will help out. Unless you're mean to them, too."

"They will. I'm a Grade A damsel in distress. Who could resist?" Mary asked. "I'll catch up with you later."

She walked out of the Perk with a cup of coffee and the reassurance that if May asked Peter any embarrassing questions, she wasn't going to have to be a witness to it. She went through that before when she was dating him. That time was enough.

Zero dashed into the Perk, looking slightly flustered. "Okay I realize I'm late but it's still before noon, so you should consider this a personal triumph for me. Hi."

"That's okay. You had a long trip yesterday," Peter said. "Zero, this is my aunt, May Parker. Aunt May, this is Zero Hopeless-Savage."

He couldn't remember if he ever told May what Zero's actual first name was, but he thought leading off with it would be a bad idea."

"Pleased to meet you," May said. "That's an... interesting name."

She didn't see Peter's narration, so she went straight for it.

Yeah, she had no idea. "Oh, well, I like it," Zero said blithely. "And before you ask, because everyone does, yes it's my real name. It's so swerval to finally really meet you."

"It's really a shame it took this long," May said. "I've been trying to convince Peter to bring you over for the longest time." She needed to get to know the girl. "He has a habit of not traveling more than he absolutely needs to, though."

Zero cast a glance of, 'You...did tell her you were moving to LA, right? In another dimension?' at her boyfriend. It was amazing how much one little look could convey. But to Aunt May she said, "Tell me about it. He kept finding excuses not to visit me this year."

And had been horribly traumatized in the process, but, details. Not Zero's strong point before her second cup of coffee.

Peter glanced back with an 'Of course I did. She just knows that I'm going to be bad and not visit as much as I should, what with the extra-dimensional travel and all.'

And then he sneezed, so it might not have been a meaningful glance at all. But let's just pretend that it was. "They weren't excuses, they were reasons. Not always good ones. But still, reasons."

Zero reached over to pat his hand. "You keep telling yourself that, hooskspider."

May noticed the nickname. "Does everyone here know?"

"Oh, um, it's kind of hard to hide powers here," Peter said. "But she's one of the few who know everything. I'm making it a point to be more open and honest with the people I care about and that seems like a decent place to start."

"Also, even if people knew everything here, there's nobody else from our universe, so it's all okay."

"I would've found out eventually," Zero explained. "And then I would've killed him for lying to me. So it's better this way."

There weren't many ways in which someone could casually refer to murdering her nephew and make May actually like them more, but that was one of them. "He's lucky I didn't do that," she joked. "You were there that day. I never got the chance to thank you for helping rescue Peter."

That was Zero for you. "Wild horses couldn't have kept me away. I'm glad you're, er, feeling better."

"A simple heart attack couldn't keep this lady down too long," Peter said proudly. "She's way too tough for that. Chuck Norris is scared of her."

"I thought Chuck Norris wasn't scared of anything," Zero said. ~~"Hey, know who they got to be guest speaker?"~~

"Anything but May Parker," Peter ~~whose player DIDN'T KNOW WHO THE GUEST SPEAKER WAS UNTIL AFTER HE WROTE THAT PING, HE SWEARS~~ said.

"Oh stop it," May said. "It's not like he's been in a good movie since before you were born."

"So, Zero, Peter tells me you're a film student?"

"But he did have the TV show," Zero argued. "And yes, that's right. I'd wanted to be a musician, but my parents feel it's important to learn a trade. Finals start when I go back."

"The show was overrated," May said. "And trades are very important. Your parents raised you well."

She was fairly sure at this point that she approved of Zero.

"Well, they tried hard," Zero said. "My sister likes to make fun of the show, actually."

"Your sister is very smart," May said. She decided to move to the next pertinent bit of information. "How is this apartment you and Peter will be moving into? Is it in a good neighborhood? And you'll be living with another girl?"

"Yes, it's very nice," Zero assured her. "My parents don't want me living in a rathole, they did enough of that in the seventies...we'll be living with the girl who's been my roommate all this year, Janine. She's a film student, too, and I couldn't just leave her to the housing lottery."

"And even if she finds out about my superheroing, I've been promised that she won't be completely freaked out by it," Peter said.

"Well," Zero demurred, "film student."
