Luke's Diner; Sunday [ 04/05 ]

So, technically, the diner was opened up pretty late, because A.J. was doing stuff at the graduation brunch, but it was his last day. What was Lacey going to do? Fire him? He thought about maybe skipping it all together, but the distraction from having eventually met Annette's parents was ssumingly greatly needed.

Besides, he couldn't leave without putting one last masterpiece up on the specials board. And a fake postcard up on his shiny, pretty postcard board.

Luke's was open!

What do you know, Annette came breezing in, her parents in tow. Okay, they more or less demanded to talk to this boy she was planning on running all over Europe with, but whatever. She was here, and she was smiling, even though it was a more nervous sort of smile.

"Hi, A.J.," she said when she reached the counter.

Mr. Hargrove gave A.J. a thorough once over. "I hear you plan on traisping all over Europe with my daughter," it was a statement. "What are your intentions, boy?"

"Hello, dear," Mrs. Hargrove smiled pleasantly. "What nice hair you have."
intraspective: (Just a smile)

Like she was going to miss being here today. Ino came in, a determined smile on her face. "Hey, A.J."

Annette kind of did the innocent eye thing. Really, there was no warning she could have given. Her daddy could not be swayed when he got something in his head. Right now it was A.J. and yeah, she was kind of wondering how this was going to go.

She smiled and said lamely, "A.J. makes the best milkshakes."

Mr. Hargrove continued to glare sternly at A.J. "That isn't one of your teen slang terms, isn't it?"

Mrs. Hargrove just continued to smile at A.J., though her eyes swept over him in a studious manner. Was this what a hippi looked like?

"Milkshakes, you say?" she laughed lightly at her daughter. "Surely A.J. has something a tad bit stronger behind the counter, hmm, young man?"

Sadly, her parents weren't joking. Annette decided to give over her attention to a napkin and make, well, a paper napkin airplane out of it. She knew good and well that her daddy was going no where until he was satisfied with himself.

Her parents were nuts although her father knew exactly what he was doing. Her mom? Well... bless her heart.

"Try the root beer, mom. You won't be disappointed," Annette said quietly then she shot a look at her dad that clearly said BE NICE!

Annette's looks were usually futile.

"Mrs. Hargrove, you had a gin and tonic not half an hour ago. And as for you, young man, don't get sparky with me."

Not that A.J. wasn't being completely polite. Mr. Hargrove had just made up his mind that the boy was a daughter-stealing hippie.

"Did I? Imagine that," came her snarky, dry reply.

"Do tell us, A.J., just what are you planning to do while you are in Europe? Do you have a plan? Do you have the means and ability to keep our daughter safe? Who else is going with you? surely it is not just the two of you?"
intraspective: (better than you)

"Everybody," she informed him, "has been rather stupid lately. Would you like to know your latest stupidity or shall we skip that?"
intraspective: (are you REALLY sure)

She waved one hand dismissively. "Graduating, whatever," she put her hands on her hips. "I'm not talking about that."

Mr. Hargrove eyed the boy with slight disdain. "And is it your intention to allow my daughter to support the cost of this... adventure?"

"Please, Mr. Hargrove," Mrs. Hargrove snorted. "I'm sure the boy has means, even if he is a hippie."
