The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday [5/10]

There were tiny tortoises all over the lobby today. Mary kind of stared at them for a while, until she realized that Gunther was rounding them up for something bad. "No!" she squealed. "Gunther, they're probably protected by environmental laws. You can't cook them!"

[The hotel's info post is over here, if you're not familiar with it. Basically, you don't have to be staying here to take advantage of the room service menu during business hours. You do need to be a guest to use the in-room amenities.]

Where Gunther will serve you if he's not sulking.

Who is at the front desk today, and working on some paperwork.

Today, we join our hero in the midst of ULTIMATE PERIL as he attempts to procur a room.

"Y'ello."

There was, in short, a giant worm at the desk.

Mary's been in Fandom for nearly a year now, so she quickly managed to wipe the "OMGWTF" expression off her face.

"Hello there. Welcome to the Arms Hotel. Is there something I can help you out with?" she asked.

"I'm in the middle of ultimate peril and I really need a room," Jim rushed out, "You got those, right?"

"We have those," said Mary, springing into action and checking her list. "Did you need a room with anything special?"

Oh. Right. Jim blinked for a couple of moments, poking at his head with one glove. "I don't knooooow," he mused, "I hadn't really... thought about it."

"Well, we offer lots of different amenities," said Mary. "There's rooms with minibars and double beds, or rooms with full bars, kitchens and king-size bed. There's a suite with a stripper pole, and I even have one room with a couch but no bed." Which hadn't been rented out since Mary had given the bed to Gabriel at the church, actually.

Jim digested this incredible deluge of information, stroked his not-really-a-chin thoughtfully, and then finally asked the important questions. "You got any with... rubber duckies? Oh! And stitching on the curtains. The neat kind. Maybe somewhere I can stash a few snowglobes?"

"Well, I'm not sure if... hmmm," said Mary, noticing something odd on her list. "Room 302 has a tub full of rubber duckies and a huge storage closet. There's nothing on here about the curtains, but I can definitely swap them out for something else if they're not to your liking."

Jim gave her a thumbs up. "Groovy!" he said, enthusiastically, then leaned over. "Soooo... how much paperwork are we talking about here?"

"Well, first I need to have an idea of how long you'll be staying here and how you'd like to pay," said Mary.

She really hoped that worms had credit cards.

"Unless the community service board gets ornery again, I should be here for the next two months, citizen." He leaned his elbow on the desk, gesturing with his other arm. "Do you take Universal Express?"

Provided the board hadn't blocked it.

"That'll work," said Mary. She pulled out a room key for Jim. "We have 24 hour room service, but our head chef can be a bit... ornery at times."

"Yeah, yeah, ornery homicidal chef, I've been there," Jim said, with a roll of his eyes, and took the key.

"Let me know if you'd like me to swap out those curtains for something else," she said. "My name's Mary Connell, by the way, and I run the hotel."

And hopefully soon, it would be Mary Connell Bluth, if things worked out. She smiled at that thought.

Murdock strolled in like he knew the place. Probably because he did. He kept a wary eye out for that chef, though. Something seriously up with that dude.

"Hi," he greeted when he reached the counter. "You have a room available I hope?"

"We have plenty of rooms available," said Mary, checking her clipboard. "Were you looking for anything in particular?"

Hrm. Murdock thought for a while. "Got anything with a nice ocean view? I think I'd like to see the ocean. Get tired of nothin' but trees after a while." And the mesh-covered windows. "Oh! Somethin' big too. Nice huge bed. Maybe with a fridge too."

"Well, there's a junior suite with an ocean view, king size bed, and kitchenette," said Mary. "And there's a balcony, as an added bonus."

"That sounds perfect! I'll take it!"

He scanned the lobby for a brief second then leaned in a bit. "Say...you don't happen to still have that crazy chef workin' here do ya? German, I think?"

"Gunther? Yes, he's still around. He might be sulking in the kitchen right now. He was going to make turtle soup and I yelled at him," said Mary as she slid the key to room 502 across the desk.

Murdock frowned at the news of the turtle soup. Definitly a sign that the man was not what he appeared. This time, Murdock was going to bust that cheesy chef cover of his wide open. Oh yes.

"Nietzsche would not be pleased by that," he remarked dryly. "Good for you for puttin' a stop to it." He picked up the key and smiled. "Thanks! I'll make sure to give a good tip. Y'all have got good service here. I remember." He tapped the side of his head with a finger.

"I'm glad to hear that," she said. "I'm Mary Connell, the manager here at the hotel. If there's anything else I can help you out with, let me know."

"Nice to meet you Mary. I'm HM Murdock." He nodded, "Definitly. I'm sure I'll like it here."
