Tony was not in the shop proper today. no, he was in the workroom, halfway through installing Jarvis.

There were a few... interesting holes in the walls where the program's systems had been attempted to be integrated into the entire building.

What? He wasn't a construction genius!

And one of the robots was out in the shop to watch over things. And in time out after it attempted to break things while 'helping'.

Not that he'd actually met Tony Stark or had a clue who he was besides That Guy Who Apparently Bought Sparky's, but despite the not-so-detailed nature of the voicemail he'd received, he did at least know where to show up with his toolbox. Not necessarily what to pack in it, but you take what you can get.

He knocked on the door, peering around. "Hi?"

Tony was very good at assuming things and having them happen as he thought.

The lone robot at the front seemed to perk up a little, making a noise that might have been curious as Xander appeared.

"Back room!"

Xander tilted his head and grinned at the robot in your basic Galaxyquest-geekboy way. Not that bots were a new thing, but bots that actually look like robots were surprisingly niftier than bots that look like some psychotic loser's perfect girlfriend.

"I'm guessing that wasn't you on the phone then," he said to it, as he headed towards the very human voice that had called from the back room. It could've been, after all. You never knew around here.

If the robot could have looked sheepish, it really would have. It gave an odd approximation of it, though.

A slightly sweaty and distracted Tony Stark waved in the general direction of Xander. "Hi," He muttered, screwing something into place. "No, that dummy is why the phone call ended."

Xander tried to avoid being distracted by a slightly sweaty and distracted Tony Stark, because that was actually kind of distracting, while he did a not-so-instant replay on the voicemail. "Ah. I take it he touched the box."

Nodding, Tony took a step back to look over his work.

"I need the needle-nose pliers on the desk," He said, waving in the general direction of the neatly organized tools there.

Xander raised an eyebrow as he reached for them. "You hired a contractor to... hand you tools?"

Tony finally broke his attention away at that. "What?" He shook his head, standing and stretching out a kinked up back.

"No, no. The walls need to be repaired after each of the panels are installed."

"Ahh. Not like I was gonna turn down the easy money, but I can do that too." Xander pulled out a notebook and started jotting down the supplies he'd need to duck out and grab.

Glancing Xander's way, Tony nodded. "Good." A beat. "Those pliers?"

He snorted, amused winning out over annoyed as he handed them over. "Pliers fine, but just warning you now I charge extra if you make me handle screwdrivers. Eww."

"Only if they have vodka in them," Tony said with a smirk, twisting a few wires as he worked.

"I never mix drinking and power tools. It's a thing. I wanna keep all the organs I've still got."

Tony turned enough to see the eyepatch again. "I'll put the soldering tools away if it makes you feel better."

Not that it was out, really.

The panel before him flickered a few times. Almost.

"Not necessary. Unless you're already drunk. In which case I'll just stand over here and throw you stuff when you need it."

"See, I think that would end in more injuries," Tony said, not turning around. "It's not like I need more metal in me."

Xander raised an eyebrow again, not that Tony could see it. "Hey, I didn't completely lose depth perception. I can still throw dangerous pointy objects with the...well maybe not the best of 'em. But I'm usually trying to hit something, so maybe you have a point."

"No throwing tools," Tony agreed. "Unless it's at Dumb-dumb out there."

The robot made a sad little noise.

"I think you hurt his feelings."

Tony barely spared a glance in the robot's direction. "Well if it'd stop acting like a baby, I would let it help again."

...

There was probably something wrong with talking about something he programed this way.

So Bridge picking up coffee for Xander while Xander was working was hardly a new thing, except today Xander was on site at Mr. Stark's place, and really, it would have been terribly rude to show up with two cups of coffee when there were three people, and so here he is with three cups of coffee and poking his head in the door.

"Hello? I bring coffee!"

Coffee certainly got Tony's attention for a minute.

Oh, and that kid from before, but the coffee was the important thing right now. "You're back?"

"Uh huh," Bridge nods. "I know it's not a toaster, but I'm not finished with that yet, so hopefully this will be okay in the meantime," he says, tilting his head towards the tray-o-coffee.

Xander looks over and blinks. "Toaster? We're recruiting now?"

Tony paused, mid-sip. and then continued because the coffee was important. "Recruiting?"

Bridge just looks at Xander with a quizzical expression on his face. Because he's got *no idea* what he means.

"Toaster-oven? Signing bonus?" Xander tries, making gestures that... for once are actually not intended to be less gay than they look.

...

"Right." Tony shook his head and went back to working on getting Jarvis online.

Bridge... can't help but look over curiously as he finishes off the last of his coffee.

Of course, just as he finishes the last sip, there's a *pop* noise and the empty coffee cup clatters to the floor.

Next to the ferret now standing where Bridge had been a second ago.

Xander doesn't even blink this time. He just tries not to facepalm with a spackle-trowel in his hand.

"Perils of dating a guy from the future: they never get your pop-culture references. Perils of dating a guy in Fandom: mostly just minor eye-injury from people throwing glitter, but also there's the random turning into animals."

The robot made a confused little noise at the sudden... ferreting.

Tony? Tony didn't look up from the control panel in the wall. "Did you say something?"

Bridge just... facepaws.

//Right. First Friday of the summer. I should've known.// Not that anyone in the room actually *speaks* ferret.

Some people in the room are fluent in Bridge, though. Also, in Fandom.

He sighs. "Yeah, I said just try not to step on the ferret."

"Okay then."

Give him a moment.

"...why is there a ferret in my shop?"

"He came to bring us coffee."

Another little turn of a screw and fiddling with the circuit board before...

A pause.

"...He's a ferret?"

"Only every once in a while. Welcome to Fandom."

"...right." Tony went back to work. Because this all made sense.

Another little bit of tinkering and the panel lit up.

"Good afternoon, sir." A dry and cultured voice came from one of the speakers on the corner of the room.

Xander looked around. "...Giles?"

"Jarvis," Tony corrected, calibrating the sound. "He'll be watching over everything for me."

"Oh, a talky computer system." Xander pointed to ferret-Bridge. "He has one of those. It speaks everything but English and Dog."

"I can assure you, I don't speak--" The voice suddenly went high pitched before retuning to normal. "--dog. Thank you for that, sir," It said as dryly as a computer could.

Tony just smirked and closed the panel. "So! Harris... think you can handle another job after this?"

"Ooh, do I get bigger holes to patch?" Xander grinned.

"And more," Tony replied. "I'll need to expand the workroom."

Bridge? Makes a disappointed-ferret-noise upon realising he can't exactly ask the million questions he's got about the computer system. And then he's standing on Xander's shoe and attempting to climb *up* Xander.

Well, he has claws now, so he doesn't exactly have to make a 2D6 success roll on that one.

"No, you can't help," Xander says, looking over at his shoulder. "You'd get spackle in your fur."

Tony just looked down at the ferret. "He's not going chew things, is he?"

What? There were a lot of exposed wires around right now.

//I'm not going to chew things!// Bridge protests, looking slightly offended.
