A Clearing Deep in the Preserve; early evening Friday
There was a Luau going on somewhere on the island. It seemed like it might be a cool thing to hang out at, but Murdock had already made other plans. After handwavily dropping Millie a note on where to meet him, Murdock waited next to a chopper that he’d totally stolen picked up from somewhere.
Waiting was a loose term though, as he paced nervously around the clearing. There wasn’t any real reason for him to be nervous. It was just a little friendly ride for a nice gal who’d never been in the sky before.
Right?
So why was he still pacing?
(for the date. up early for a bit of sp.)

And the chopper wasn’t amazing. Amazing was the way Millie’s eyes lit up as she took in the machine. And her smile.

"I think it's this place. The way it brings all kinds of possiblities together." He smiled brightly, "And people."

"You have a guardian?" Uh-oh. That could possibly mean trouble depending upon how 'guarding' the person was. "Why would that be a pain?" Like Millie could be a pain to anybody.
"What's a Chrestomanci?"
no subject
She wrinkled her forehead, trying to think how to explain Gabriel. "Well, technically he was my guardian. After I escaped from Series Ten. Now, though I am on my own. And..." she smiled a little mischievously. "I was not the easiest of wards. I ran away from my boarding schools more than once."
"Chrestomanci supervises all of the magic on Series 12 and helps do the same on many of the related worlds. It is quite a prestigious position."
no subject
He grinned at her tale of escaping. "I can *definitely* relate to that. I have a history of break-outs myself." He did wonder however, what it was that would make her want to escape from this 'Series Ten'. But that would have to be a conversation for some other time, as he didn't want to potentially spoil the evening for her.
"Magic? As in real magic?" he asked eagerly. "Like with glowin' lights and makin' folks disappear kind of magic? That would be cool!"
no subject
"Definitely real magic," she assured him. "I am actually an enchantress myself."
no subject
"You are? Can you do spells and that kind of stuff? Or do you not do it that way? See; that's what I meant about different things and people coming together. You're not familiar with technology and I've never seen any magic my whole life. Funny, ain't it?"
no subject
"Yes," she agreed. "That is one of the reasons I like it so here. So many different people to learn from and no one thinking I am terribly strange."
no subject
"Yah," he nodded, "I like it for the same reasons." One crazy nutball didn't exactly stand out in a crowd of other odd people. "Strange? You? Surely, you jest, my dear lady. There can't be anything strange about someone so sweet."
no subject
She blushed again as he called her his dear lady. "Oh, but I am," she said. "I was most unlike the girls I went to school with. I did not know any of the rules or etiquette and I had never had friends before. And they did not wish to believe I was a former goddess."
"Which made me mad and then I would do this..." She made a second set of shadowy arms appear. "And then they would call me a freak."
It was a risk, she knew, showing him, but she thought it would be best to know upfront if he was bothered by what she was.
no subject
"Everyone needs friends," he remarked softly. "I hope you've found some here? I know you've got at least one standin' right in front of ya."
His eyes widened a little as the arms appeared. "You know," he tilted his head slightly in thought, "Those could really come in handy. I sometimes wish I had a second set of arms." He wasn't bothered by the arms, but he was bothered by the idea of someone calling her a freak.
no subject
The shadowy arms disappeared. "I'm afraid the arms are mostly for show, but they are a sign that I was once the Living Asheth."
no subject
"The Living Asheth," he repeated. "Was that your title when you was a Goddess?"
no subject
She took off her sandal and showed him the cat shaped birthmark on her foot. "The cat is sacred to Asheth, so they knew it was a sign. So they took me from my parents to the temple and that is where I stayed."
no subject
"They took you away from your parents?" Her running away and escaping was possibly beginning to make sense. "Did you at least get to see them still?" He was really, really hoping the answer wouldn’t be the same as the one he was expecting.

no subject
"Oh. I'm sorry," he replied softly. "I didn't mean to bother you or nothin' by askin'. Sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my brain. I wind up sayin' all kinds of things without thinkin'."
And now all he could do is hope she wouldn't think him a crazy fool and run off on him.

He grinned suddenly. "Ya know, it's great to be standin' around and talkin', I could talk to you all night, but I'm thinkin' we can talk *and* fly at the same time. What do you say? Are you ready to go," he pointed upward, "up there?"
