Pixie Dust, Tuesday

They were, apparently, in France, a hundred odd years after Romeo had last been there.

This called for a special. He poured himself a snifter of Grand Marnier (it tasted like oranges, which made it an acceptable morning drink) and set a sign out front of the store reading:

SALE!
FRENCH DESIGNERS
20% OFF
Nous avons les meilleures modes moderne.
ENTREZ!

Pixie Dust was open. Frenchily.

"Could you please direct me to the costumes, or the styles from other worlds perhaps, Romeo?"

Normally, he only came by the store at all to say hello to the other boy, but today he had a mission so, forgive him, he was a bit brusque.

He nodded, gave a somewhat sheepish smile of thanks, and ducked into the racks.

"I should be able to find it," he said from behind the row of clothes. "But thank you. I'm sorry to be rushing. I've just had a bit of... a change in plans forced on me and I'm a little flustered."

He pulled out something that was almost there (http://images.broadwayworld.com/columnpic/ndwicked%20wizard.jpg) but not quite. Not bright enough.

"How are you, Romeo? If you don't mind me asking. I haven't seen you for a time."

His focus was on the clothes, but it was obvious that he did want to know.

"Something like the last one," he said absently. "And would you happen to stock bags?" He'd need a carpet bag to keep his change of clothes and a couple of supplies.

To the answer, he nodded.

"I'm heading home myself. Family business also. Certainly understandable."

"The blue might be the best bet," he said with a faint nod. "And I'm sure I can do a bit of a quick fix if there's an issue with fit."

He breathed out.

"And thank you for letting me know where I might find what I need."

He leaned against a convenient wall.

"I hope so as well. It will be my first time back since I came here."

Alice hesitated by the doorway. Pixie Dust, one might expect that it sold large amounts of various concoctions and elixirs, ones with arcane and magical purposes. From the looks of it, it was rather a clothing shop.

She entered, staring at the many strange and colorful tops and bottoms and dresses. Perhaps her first impression hadn't been so far off. Clothes were rather transformative.

Curious, indeed. She offered a hesitant smile to the boy at the counter, and tugged slightly on her pinafore before remembering not to fidget, and clasping her hands behind her.

"Hello," she smiled. "I believe I need your assistance."

Alice remembered her manners, then, and dropped him a proper curtsy.

"I'm horribly out of date," she explained. "Which is to be expected when one is moved a century or two at a moment's notice. I don't object to being anachronistic, and I shouldn't like to traipse about half-nude as it seems a number of people here enjoy doing."

Alice was, of course, still very Victorian.

"All the same, I've seen girls wearing trousers, and some very simple cotton blouses with them, and I must admit ..." Victorian enough to blush, at the coming revelation. "They look quite comfortable. Is that really acceptable here?"

"Did you perhaps make a similar jump?" Alice asked, tilting her head at him with some amusement. "You'll forgive my forwardness, but you speak differently than most of those I've met here."

He would sound formal even in Wonderland; perhaps a high advisor of the Queen's, framing her edicts in a proper tongue and carrying them from village to town.

She blushed once more, and felt a bit childish for it. "It seems odd, to be wandering around showing off one's legs. Considering the summer, it may be pleasant, and I don't suppose I'm any great beauty that people would be stopping to stare at my legs to start. Legs are commonplace enough here to escape notice, it would seem. Perhaps some of those, as well, then." If they weren't too terribly short, and if she could convince herself she wasn't wandering around town half-clothed.

She frowned down at her feet. "I might perhaps do well to get new shoes, for that matter." She loved her boots, but they were rather black and large and laced-up, and seemed not quite the thing to wear with a light summery top and some of those dark blue trousers girls had. For one, the boots themselves came to her knees.

"I meant no offense," she said hurriedly, cursing her own tendency to place her foot in her mouth and have a good chew. "I only hoped that I mightn't be the only traveler so thoroughly misplaced. I suppose the aliens have one on me for that, I have at least stayed on my own planet. So far as we know. Considering there seem to be multiple Earths, I may not have."

Alice flipped through the racks, browsing with some curiosity. Soft cottons and rayons, simple blouses with round necks, khaki short-legged trousers and skirts. They seemed so light and easy. She must return, when she had more money; one shift didn't allow her much by way of shopping funds.

"Two weeks ago, I was in an asylum, in England, in 1873," she said, pulling out a dark green short-sleeved shirt which had long white sleeves underneath it. This was very nice, indeed.

After third period, Yurika returned with Romeo to the shop, still amused by today's topic. "I am so going to fail this class," she joked, "I just don't blend well."

"I could make you into a very pretty girl," Yurika teased. "A little hair dye, the right top... no one would ever know it was you."

"Aw, you'd be pretty!" She smiled brightly and poked at his side. "You've got those lovely eyes, the boys would eat you up!"

"Besides, there's tall girls!" she protested, drawing herself up to her full 5'8". "We wouldn't have to give you a heavily padded bra, just enough to hint at something. It's not the dress-up that would be hard, it would be changing your walk."

Dōjima giggled and grabbed her sandwich. "For Halloween, maybe? I was just trying to help. Honest." Really. Watching him flail wasn't part of it at all.
