Amber woke up grumpy this morning. Like really grumpy which was pretty much unusual for her. It wasn't even that time, she was just plain grumpy and wanted to crawl back in bed.

But no, she had to work, she had class, and had to nurse a stinking headache that didn't come from drinking one and a half beers last night at Caritas. They had lime in them, how strong could they be?

Behind the counter she nibbled on Skittles and tried not to look as pathetic as she felt. She might not actually be nice today. Amber could do cranky and she could do it real well. Usually she's just alone when she is.

Who is trying to make a house of cards and impress Amber out of her grumpiness.

Except when she is at her 2nd period class.

I have to go grocery shopping. Uhg.

Really, Amber should know to expect him now. So she shouldn't be too surprised to see him striding through the door, smiling. "Amber! We are in France!" In case she didn't already know that.

"I know that," she said, trying to muster up a smile but failing. She was dang cranky.

Uh-oh. Sounds like a potentially discontented employee. G’Kar stepped to within normal talking distance and gave a warm smile. “Of course,” he replied smoothly, and in a much quieter tone, “Things not going well today?” He could guess the answer, but he rather preferred Amber state it. Then he could work at finding out what was possibly bothering her. It was incredibly easy to slip back into the mannerisms of diplomat.

"Things are swell," she mumbled, drawing circles with her fingertip on the counter.

"Yes, I can certainly tell," he remarked dryly. "I wish things were so for me. I somehow ~~handwavily~~ came into possession of a package of gourmet French chocolates. I really have no idea what to do with them. It would be a shame to just throw them out, but," he sighed, "I may be forced to that end."

Amber looked up at him and knew he was messing around with her. "Why would you just throw them out? You don't like chocolate?"

"I am not terribly fond of sweets. They are all right upon occasion, but I doubt I'll ever eat them." He gave her a brief glance, "Unless you happen to have an alternative suggestion..."

"Well," Amber twisted her lips, looked down again with raised brows. "I might know someone who could use a little chocolate..."

"You would?" G'Kar sounded almost relived, "That would prove to be mutually beneficial for all parties." He smirked a little upon asking, "Who might this person be?"

Of course Amber could just buy a chocolate bar here at the store. But G'Kar said French chocolate and Amber's never had French chocolate and it was or would be... free. "Me?"

"How convenient! Here I am looking for some way or someone," he grinned, "to take these off my hands and here you are willing to do so. An excellent bit of timing." Of course he knew she was going to go for them and he got the desired reaction he was looking for. A slightly less grumpy Amber. Whether she knew he was playing her or not didn't matter. The end result was still the same.

She knew, or suspected she knew, and it did make her smile because she knew he was doing it because he cared. "And you're just givin' them up, that easy? I imagine French chocolate is expensive."

"I imagine they must be." Of course he knew this. The cost didn't matter to him though. Amber did. "That is why it is most preferable that they go to good use." He pulled the package out from his bag. "And here you are."

Amber accepted the chocolates with much appreciation. But then she promptly broke down, crying.

"I-I'm sorry..." She thunked her forehead to the counter. "B-bad dayyyy."

Oh. This was not good. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said with much sympathy. "Is there anything I can do to help?" Angry and yelling diplomats he was good at. Crying teenagers? Not so much.

"The c-chocolate helps," she managed, sniffing loudly. "I'm just cranky... and homesick... and... stuff."

"Amber, I'm sorry. Is there anyway you can visit home? Perhaps during a weekend?" 'And stuff' caught his attention. "If it helps, I am always here if you should ever need company. Or someone to talk to."

She shook her head. "I can't visit home now, not yet. That crazy woman is on the loose and ma would kill me did I even try to come home." She blinked, wiped her eyes, and looked up at him. "I could use a hug?"

"That I can do." He got up and wrapped his arms about Amber. He'd hold on for as long as she needed.

She hugged him tight. Amber didn't get enough hugs and she missed her ma's. "Thank you, G'Kar," she said quietly.

"You're welcome," he replied just as softly. "If you ever require another, all you have to do is ask."

Pulling back, she brushed her hands across her cheeks and eyes again, feeling slightly embarrassed for crying in front of him. Apu thankfully was in the storage room, or somewhere hopefully not staring at her.

"I don't usually cry," she chuckled softly.

"It has been a long while for me as well," he admitted. "But I think everyone needs to some point another. It is rather like a small cleansing of the soul. Allows us to shed some of fears and worries. Or at least, dampen them for a while."

"Thank you," she said, smiling up at him. "You know you've made me feel better and I'm not even goin' to share my chocolate. Except with you."

He smiled back, "Then I know I have accomplished something worthwhile today. I will gladly share with you. I bought them for you in the first place."

"You did?" Oh, that made her smile grow even wider. "Then you pick the first one." She handed them over, letting him pick first. "You are so sweet, G'Kar! No one has ever bought me chocolates before."

"Really?" he asked as he plucked one from the box. "Then I am doubly glad I bought them. Everyone should have friends to cater to once in a while."

"One day I will return the favor," she grinned and plucked one from the box and popped it in her mouth.

"That is unnecesary, but a very warm gesture."

"Mayyyyybe," she smiled. "But one that will happen when you least expect it."

He laughed. "Very well. I shall look forward to the time in which I am least expectful."
