The York Gallery; Sunday [ 05/25 ]

Charlotte was feeling a little disappointed that the business meeting planned for last night had to be rescheduled, so she was making up for lost opportunities by working particularly hard behind the desk today. At least, that's what she told herself and any breaks she made to browse a bit for cute shoes online were completely well-earned departures, really.

The exhibit was thankfully still there, despite one of her employees deep-rooted fears, and the ~~moddable~~ tea luncheon was set out for anyone to enjoy. Charlotte herself was on about her fourth cup of tea.

The York Gallery was open!

Where Charlotte is busy at seeming busy, but not too busy at seeming busy to stop a bit and chat.

Joanna had done her research on the artist, and finding that several people in her social circle had expressed interest in his work, decided to go ahead and make the investment simply so she could yawn at parties later and point out that she had been turned onto him ages ago.

She walked right up the clerk and stood there, waiting to get noticed.

It hadn't taken Charlotte long at all. Glancing up from her computer, she gave the other woman a bright smile. She seen her in here before, but never got the chance to really chat, as she'd seemed mostly preoccupied with seeming bored with the exhibits. "Hello! How may I help you?"

"I'm here to procure some art," Joanna replied crisply. "Can you take care of that for me, or should you go get someone?"

Charlotte's head tilted, slightly puzzled. Knowing that she always made sure to present herself with the utmost professionalism while in the gallery, the only feasible assumption in this case might have been that perhaps the woman thought she was just another student employee, but...that would have to mean that she looked...young enough and that was impos--

Oh, hell, Charlotte'd take it, even if that wasn't at all what the woman was thinking. She chuckled a little. "No, I think I'm definitely qualified to help you with that, seeing as I own the place. Which piece were you interested in, Ms....?" She trailed off the question in her voice.

Joanna brightened considerable upon learning she was dealing with the owner, though it wasn't outwardly noticeable, and she reconsidered the girl in front of her.

"Joanna Stayton," she replied. "That piece there in the middle, the one with the three ladies, I want that one."

"Charlotte York," she offered, and nodded, "Nice to meet you." But her expression soon went a little regretful, eyebrows furrowing a bit as her lips pressed momentarily together. "But I'm afraid that particular piece has already been sold, I'm sorry. It was certainly the exhibit's most popular..."

"Sold?" Joanna's head snapped back towards Charlotte. "Someone here in Fandom bought it?" She evidently needed to get out a little more.

Try as she might, Charlotte couldn't help a small grin. It was just...so nice to think that her pet project was actually attracting some actual business here. She nodded. "That's right, sold just last Wednesday."

Joanna scowled. "And I take it the purchase is final?"

"Check's already in the mail." Charlotte tried her best too look apologetic, but it was a bit difficult, because she knew how much that check was for.

"Well." Joanna tapped her foot and looked around at some of the other pieces. "I was hoping to make a significant investment today," she said, quirking and eyebrow and glancing over at Charlotte.

"What else can you interest me in?"

"Well," Charlotte gave a considerable glance around, "the Morning Melody (http://www.absolutearts.com/cgi-bin/portfolio/art/your-art.cgi?login=jareach&title=Morning_melody-1145737480t.jpg) piece is a fairly..." pricey, "substantial piece of his, as well as the Empress (http://www.absolutearts.com/cgi-bin/portfolio/art/your-art.cgi?login=jareach&title=The_Empress-1053525265t.jpg), if that one interests you. I know that one was a bit of a popular piece at the opening as well."

"I wasn't aware of your opening," Joanna lied coolly. "Perhaps if I had gotten a personal invitation, I could have made a purchase earlier."

Personal invitation? "Well," Charlotte said with a light smile, "it isn't exactly a list affair or anything, but I'll certainly try to let you know when the next exhibit opens."

"I guess that will have to be adequate," Joanna replied. "I'll take those two pieces. And," she looked about, "that (http://www.absolutearts.com/cgi-bin/portfolio/art/your-art.cgi?login=jareach&title=Asta-1190580468t.jpg) one." She actually like that last piece.

"Absolutely!" Charlotte beamed happily; maybe it was just beginner's luck, but she was doing even better on this exhibit than the last one! Three more pieces sold was excellent news, especially once she did a quick tally up in her head. "Let me just get a few things regarding the sale entered into my computer, and then I'll have all you'll need regarding payment, where you'd like the pieces shipped once the exhibit's over, all that good stuff, Ms. Stayton. Or do you prefer Joanna?"

"Ms. Stayton," she replied without hesitation. "And please make this quick. I have other important business to attend to."

Trying not to smirk too much at her computer screen, Charlotte had a feeling that, out of her current buyers, she wasn't too hard pressed to pick her favorite. She felt like asking exactly what sort of important business anyone would have to attend to on this tiny little island, but didn't, as she liked to keep potential customers when they came in. She went over some of the ~~ironically handwavyish~~ finer details of the purchase and transfer before commenting, "And there you go. We're all set then, once the payment transfers."

Joanna looked everything over and nodded her approval. She started to turn to leave, but paused. "You know, Ms. York, this island can be a rather tedious place at times. Perhaps you would like to stop by my mansion sometime for lunch?" She was, after all, a fellow business woman.

...Charlotte took it as a relatively good sign that she should get out to seem more of the island that wasn't the bar when she couldn't remember noticing any mansion around. Joan-- Ms. Stayton seemed a little on the uptight side, but maybe she wasn't so bad once you got to know her. "Oh, I think that'd be lovely, thank you!" Charlotte chirped, always eager to make a new friend. "Did you have any particular day in mind?"

"I'm free this coming Tuesday," she replied after feigning some thought. She was bored to death, and this would give her something to yell at the wait staff about. "The mansion is located at 23 Griffin Way. It's pretty hard to miss."

"I would hope so," Charlotte said, a cute little attempt at a joke, accompanied with a light chuckle. "Otherwise, I'd wonder why you'd call it a mansion in the first place!"

"It is one of my smaller properties," she said with a small shrug.

"I'll have my personal chef whip up something delectable." She flashed a very rare and surprising genuine smile in Charlotte's direction.

"Oooh!" Charlotte beamed, and chuckled a little again. This would be fun; she missed luncheons and the like, especially with people of the society that Joa-- Ms. Stayton certainly seemed to be a part of, as long as she didn't go all psychotic bitch on her like Bunny. Ew. Ew, no. "I'll certainly look forward to it, then, it sounds like it should be quite nice!"

"Of course it will be," Joanna stated as she started to move to leave the gallery.

Charlotte would argue that only a few of the pieces (http://www.absolutearts.com/jareach/) were a little creepy, but there was nothing creepy about the nice red dot on the plaque for the main piece (http://www.absolutearts.com/cgi-bin/portfolio/art/your-art.cgi?login=jareach&title=Three_Graces-1145741600t.jpg).

Reaaaaallly weird schedule today, so most of my activity won't come until evening. ;_;
