Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Monday

After the past while, Cable'd been grateful for a weekend without anything stranger than a herd of walking noses in the stairwell. Now that all of that had been cleared up, he'd opened the store on time, checked the radio (made a note to talk to Temari about Ino, perhaps) and settled in with his laptop.

Oddly enough, he couldn't stay put for more than fifteen minutes at a time. Janice's new toys had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Right.

Sarah Kerrigan pulled her coat a little closer to her body. The bones managed to stay in, this time-- good thing, too, because it would've cost her far too much to keep...

She stared up at the building for a good, long time. She didn't want to do this-- the owner was a prick, she was supposed to be a teacher or a fighter, but--

Maybe she should just head down to Sparky's, instead. Except that wasn't really her field of expertise, and... ...maybe the owner would just be a dear and be more of a prick so she'd have an excuse to leave.

Man up, Sarah.

She shoved open the door. "I need a job."

Oh. Just what she needed. Preaching.

Her mind reached out on its own impulse as it always did-- but she got nothing. Blinking once or twice, Kerrigan bit back a stingy remark. "I'm a soldier. I know guns: rifles, revolvers, the works. Knives, anything that goes bang in the night. And I know you're not at full house yet."

She felt the armor coming up on its own violition, too. She forced it back down. "And don't call me Lieutenant."

"I'm not in the army anymore," she said, unclenching her fist. Slowly. "It's Kerrigan."

Edges of a shield. That was the thing. It was like trying to listen to a brick wall, and she found herself oddly infuriated by the fact that he was just... sitting there.

"Because I need a job." Her voice was sharper than she'd anticipated. Her eyes flared up. "I obviously can't go back to what I used to do. I have the skills you need. You have a job I need. This isn't rocket science."

She stared.

Wait-- "What?"

That couldn't have been that easy. Irrationally, Kerrigan's mind lashed out again, but as before, it hit upon absolutely nothing. Without thinking, she added, "You're that in need of adult employees?"

Part of her wanted to yell, or insult, or demand again. But everything else pulled back to that newly-built center within herself, and Kerrigan's mind found old, bred-in patterns of behaviour. Rituals associated with this.

Her back straightened. "Alright," she said, "Saturday."

And turned for the door.

Michael came in and headed straight for the meditation room. He'd been falling behind a little.
