Mary was trying to cope with George Michael's sudden decision not to get married even though he didn't want to break up. She found that an entire banana cream pie was very helpful with the coping part. It's not like she needed to fit into that wedding dress anytime soon.

Sean was in search of a late breakfast. However, a Mary-shaped friend with an entire pie in front of her was enough to distract him.

"What's up?" he asked, taking a seat across from her without waiting for an acknowledgment.

"The wedding's off. Again," said Mary, stabbing at her pie with a fork. "George Michael suddenly thinks I'm too old for him to marry when he wants to go to college in the fall."

Sean blinked. "... The hell? You weren't too old for him to marry when he wasn't going off to college."

"His tune changed after he had a chat with his father," said Mary. "I don't think his father likes me very much."

"Sounds to me like his father needs to stay the hell out of his life," Sean said. "If he's old enough to run a business on his own, he's old enough to make his own decisions."

And that was when it hit him. "Jesus, the kid's only a couple years younger than me. I feel so old suddenly."

"That's what I keep telling him. I'd love it if his father stayed out of our lives," said Mary, dropping her fork.

"I don't know what to do, Sean. I love him, but I can't deal with him changing his mind like this. He's the one who proposed to me and now he doesn't want to get married!"

"Boys are stupid." Sean rolled his eyes. "Does he know you can't deal with him and his changing his mind? I mean, maybe it would help if you just had a heart-to-heart with him about it."

He didn't really think it'd be that easy, though.

"Well, he knows I'm upset with him. Locking myself in the bathroom and crying was a big clue, I'm sure," said Mary. "And we did talk once I calmed down. He still wants to be with me, but he wants to please his father too."
