The Perk, Tuesday Evening
Ino was curled up, with a blanket tugged around her shoulders, and a hot chocolate balanced precariously on the edge of her chair. She had a notebook pressed against her knees and was staring blankly at it, pen in one hand.
She didn’t know how to start, what to write, didn’t even know if she’d actually send the letter, probably not, but maybe it would help her anyway? Who knew? It was worth a shot.
Dad, she wrote,
I know I haven’t written for a while, and I’d say I’m sorry but I’m not really and at the same time I am and I don’t even know if this is making any sense. Anyway, a lot has happened and I think I need help, but I don’t even know what’s wrong and nothing is making sense and I keep making things worse and I don’t think I know how to fix it.
How do you fix something if you don’t know what’s wrong, Dad? I know something is, and that something has to do with me, but...
I don’t know.
Sorry.
I… I just want to be me again.
Ino paused for a moment, and stared at what she’d written. Then, very deliberately, added:
I think I need help.
That got another long stare, though she wasn’t really seeing it, before Ino closed the notebook and hugged it to her.
She’d have to burn the letter later. For sure now.
