Luke's Diner, May 30 (Friday)

Lacey occasionally wished she wasn't so nice (yes, she was in fact nice, thank you very much Oscar Leroy), since they were in France now and she'd agreed to let Ella take the day off to go on the field trip. She might've been pouting a bit as she wandered around the diner needlessly straightening out napkin holders and sugar packet trays.

Okay, let's be honest. She was pouting. She just wouldn't say she was. If you asked her, she was giving Serious Thought to the idea of changing the diner's water pitchers for something in a new and slightly more elegant style.

Today's Special
Sweet Corn Pancakes

Luke's is open, and the air conditioning is acting up a little bit, which is why it sounds like someone is letting out the frequent occasional frequent wistful sigh.

Ooh, pancakes! Murdock decided he needed some of those. Like now. He hopped onto a stool at the counter, spun a little then grinned at Lacey. "How goes the squirrel campaign?"

That somehow didn't sound terribly convincing. "So they've been leaving you alone since your...victory?" Naw, he wasn't trying to bait her into how it *really* went. Nope.

"Everything else goin' okay? I flew a jet yesterday." He bounced a little in his seat. "Well, okay. It wasn't a real one. Still felt like it though. Totally cool."

Uh-huh. He wasn't buying that one bit. "Up at the school. They call it the Danger Shop. It makes things out of thin air. Makes 'em real too."

"Your day been going alright? Seems pretty quiet today. Must be because a lot of folks went on that trip."

"Then why didn't you go?" he asked bluntly. "Would it have been so terrible if the diner wasn't open for a change? And you still have a chance. You can go tomorrow. Or when you get done here today. Or..." he smirked a little, "You can just close up now and head over."

"I don't see why not. What's the likelyhood of someone wanderin' in here today anyway?" A pause. "Not counting myself."

"And," he grinned, "France is France. Been over there once myself. You really should go. Don't know when we'll be back." He grinned a bit more. "Go for it. Be a little crazy once in a while." Yes, he really was goading and egging her on trying to convince her.

He laughed. "Nothing. I didn't order a thing. And don't worry about it, k?"

"You don't owe me a thing. Now go!" He waved his arms at her. "Shoo! Or do I have to chase you out?" he grinned.

"Alrighty! Bye!" he waved.
