The Arms Hotel Lobby, Monday [6/2]

Mary was a little late getting to work this morning. For one thing, she was still crashing at Mike's apartment and he didn't have a hair dryer, so it took Mary a while to get ready. Then there was the fact that her undies had disappeared in the middle of the night, which made it much harder to get dressed.

And finally, when she made her way over to the hotel, she was stunned to find that they were no longer in chilly, rainy France but in some kind of tropical paradise. She'd really love to get out there and explore it, but today was going to be a busy day at the Arms Hotel.

There was a notice posted at the front desk:

Attention guests! Starting today, minibars will only be stocked by request only. Please pick up your new minibar keys from the front desk.

[Open! No specials today]

Gunther will be happy to get your food and your liquor.

She's sober but still feeling a bit overwhelmed.

It's June, and it's actually warm today!

Stan walked in for a quick bite. Ah, was that Mary?

Mary nodded at Stan. "Hey stranger."

Picking up a new key also gave him a line to do some investigating. "I'll take that new key. And any information on the Underwear Bandito you might have."

"All I know is that my favorite Natori bra is missing and it quite a bit," said Mary. "Why? Are other people missing things too?"

"So it would seem. There's some kind of game afoot here. I can smell it a mile away like last week's spoiled milk."

"Umm, okay," said Mary. "There's always something going around in this place."

He gave her a wary look. "You saying that there's always some kind of illegitimate activity taking place here?" He pulled out a small notebook. "This bears further scrutiny."

"So ma'am, what can you tell me about the item in question? When did you last see it?"

"Last night, at my friend Mike's apartment. I took it off when I went to bed, and when I got up, it was gone," said Mary. "And it wasn't like he had extras lying around for me."

"And where does this Mike live? Did he experience any loss of personal possessions upon waking this morning?" He chewed his licorice stick for a moment. "Is there anyone you know of who might have reason to steal your brassiere?"

"He lives over in the Mauvaise Chance apartments, and I think he was grumbling about missing underwear too," said Mary. "As for who, I'll bet 70% of the male population would like to see me without a bra."

Murdock noted the apartment name in his notebook, merely arching an eyebrow in response to her conspiracies against men. "I'll drop in like a deep sea lure on this Mike and see what he knows." He tipped his hat at her, "Thanks for your time, ma'am."

"You're welcome," said Mary. She still wasn't sure what to make of him or the missing underwear, but there were other issues on her mind anyway.

"Hey, yourself," he replied. "Fancy seeing you here again. How's the hotel?"

"Busy," said Mary. "I've got Gunther taking on a bit more responsibility for stuff."

"Ah," he said with a nod. "And how is Gunther?"

"He's the same," said Mary. "Cranky as ever."

Stan smiled. "At least some things are constant."
