Park Renovation [Monday]

So, the island had moved again. It wasn't surprising. Fraser had gotten used to it after the second move. And he'd never been to Madagascar, never thought he'd end up in Madagascar.

"Welcome back," Fraser said, nodding at the crew. "And welcome to Madagascar. We're continuing park renovations for today. Stay hydrated, take breaks when you need to and ask questions if you have them. Other than that, work hard."

With that, he let everyone get to work.

Again, Turtle made an appearance to help with what little she could as a good member of the community should. Besides, the working helped her to think a little about some things that required some rumination.

Turtle was still working hard when the afternoon came around

...Hard being, of course, a relative term.

Hoshi was at the park with her dog and a frisbee. Porthos wasn't all that interested in chasing the frisbee, though, and sat there chewing on it while Hoshi watched the guys working with their shirts off.

Turtle wasn't one of those shirtless guys, not by a long shot, but, of course, she wouldn't have assumed she should be, considering how she would never in a million years imagine that was why someone would come down to the park right now. Either way, she'd noticed Hoshi there and gave her a wave and decided that she'd been working 'hard' enough for a small break. "Hi, Hoshi; why aren't you helping?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why? Oh, my dog is kind of keeping me too distracted to help out right now," Hoshi tried to explain. "You know, he's really big on playing catch and stuff."

Porthos, for his part, was sitting five feet away and still chewing on his frisbee.

"...Uh-huh," Turtle commented wryly after taking a moment to eye the dog, but then she shrugged, because it didn't really matter that much. The more she got to do, after all, the better she looked as a Pillar of the Community. She ran the back of her arm across her forehead, as if to wipe away some sweat, but there wasn't really all that much. "Anyway, how've you been?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not bad," said Hoshi. "I thought I'd take time off from working on a translation to take Porthos to the park. It is really nice to be outdoors."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it's not bad, you know," Turtle said, stretching out her arms in front of her just a little dramatically before pulling them up over her head. They settled back to her side with a sigh. "Good to get some work in, you know, supporting the community and everything. Ahh, yup."

And then her head tilted slightly. "Hoshi, I've been thinking about something, and I noticed you there and thought, hey, I might as well get Hoshi's thoughts on the matter, because I've always felt you were pretty smart and all. You mind?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
If Hoshi wasn't so distracted by the shirtlessness going on not far away, she might have wondered what was with Turtle's dramatics.

"Hmm? Oh, I don't mind," said Hoshi, forcing herself to look away from the boys. "What did you want to ask?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Noticing Hoshi seeming slightly distracted, Turtle frowned slightly as she tried to follow where the other girl had been looking, but all she could really see were the other workers, and, big deal, what was so interesting about that? But she shook her head and tried not to think about it; maybe it was something else, and besides, something really big had been distracting Turtle and she needed to hear some thoughts on it.

"Okay, so, here's the deal," she said, taking in a breath a little as she tried to figure out the best approach. "Did you know Peter at all? Pevensie? Formerly Jeff's roommate?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't know him personally, but I knew of him," said Hoshi. "He was on the student council, wasn't he? Must have been a pretty nice guy if he managed to stay roommates with Jeff, considering Nana and all."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That left Turtle frowning a little in concern, probably taking too much of what Hoshi said into consideration. "Do you think it would really be that much of a...do you think it'd be really hard being Jeff's roommate, then?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think it would take a very special person to live with Jeff," said Hoshi. "If Jeff got a new roommate who didn't have any patience with him, I think it would be tough on both of them. But Jeff has a single, right? I thought his roommate graduated."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Technically, it'd be a single, yeah, in that he's the only one living in it," Turtle said with a nod. Her eyes shifted slightly as she hesitantly added, "At the moment. And if you don't count Nana, which I don't. There's still, you know, Peter's old bed there, the extra bed, which is...um, kind of the whole point of this."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"He could end up with a randomly assigned roommate, one who doesn't have the patience to deal with Jeff," said Hoshi, looking concerned. "That wouldn't be very good for him at all. In fact, it could be really bad if he gets an awful roommate."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That certainly was the most logical case that was pulling the weight strongly toward Turtle's pro list on the matter, and her head bobbed as she nodded in agreement to Hoshi's reasonings. "So I take it," she said slowly, "that you would certainly be in support of a situation someone who gets along with Jeff pretty well to move in with Jeff, preferably soon, before the next summer term where there might be new kids to fill the spot, huh?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Definitely," said Hoshi, nodding. "It would be a very proactive solution before the roommate thing becomes a problem. Do you have someone in mind?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, uhhh," Turtle shifted a little, eyes rolling up to the sky a bit, and then off to the side. "What if, you know, that person was, uh, you know...his girlfriend?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think that would be a fabulous idea," said Hoshi with a grin. "Who else better understands Jeff and his quirks?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle's palm quickly met her face; most of it was just out of an effort to cover the embarrassment that was rushing to her cheeks in the form of a bright red blush, and she let out a little groan at Hoshi's ready agreement. "You don't think it would be....you know..."

The shifting got a little worse.

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"It would be improper?" asked Hoshi. "There's lots of other boy-girl roommate pairings in the school. I don't think anyone's really going to care about it."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would care about it," Turtle pointed out. "My parents probably would, too. Jeff obviously cares about it, too, if he had so much trouble asking me."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm, that could be a problem," said Hoshi.

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"And we're definitely not like a lot of the couples here that do share rooms," Turtle commented, sighing a little and turning even redder than she already was. Not yet, anyway, and even then...Well, let's just say that Turtle was quite aware of the fact that her sense of morality in certain areas seemed to be a class all its own around here. "So, yeah. I'm torn. Like, really badly, and just thought I'd get your opinion on it while you were here."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I still think the benefits outweigh any potential problems," said Hoshi. "I mean, what if Jeff ended up getting some kind of junior supermodel as his randomly assigned roommate?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle grunted distastefully, recalling all too well her last roommate before Ella. "That poor girl wouldn't survive a week," she muttered. "Jeff wouldn't survive a week. He'd probably burst an aneurysm in his brain after the first day."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then, in the interests of Jeff's health and well-being, you really should move in with him to prevent something like that from happening," said Hoshi.

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle nodded, although her nose wrinkled slightly with the indication that she wasn't quite completely comfortable being convinced. She gave Hoshi another worried look. "How much do you figure my parents would buy this reasoning?"

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"My method of dealing with parents is to share as little information as possible and tell a few little white lies when needed," said Hoshi. "For example, I told my mother that I was taking a course exploring educational areas that my tutors had never explored instead of saying that I'm taking Arts & Crafts. You could tell your parents that the school randomly assigned you to a new room."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cleverly disguising your words and just blatantly lying are two different things," Turtle pointed out. "Your example about your class and claiming this is random are not the same. But I'm not going into law for nothing; I'm sure I can think of a better way to color it that isn't going to be a lie, but might either stave their curiosity or have them be quiet about it..."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you can come up with something creative," said Hoshi.

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle's head bobbed in a few more nods. "Yeah. Thanks for the perspective, Hoshi. It has helped a little, I think."

Re: Watch/Ogle/Enjoy

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"No problem! I'm just glad I could help," said Hoshi. "Good luck with whatever you decide."
