Pixie Dust, Tuesday, June 17

Another Tuesday, another day near a tropical island that Romeo had to spend working. He lazily reorganized the swimsuit rack and unpacked fresh suits, taking frequent breaks to stand and stare spacily out the window.

A new collection of purses from a local designer had arrived, and Romeo admired their colors -- as much as he could admire handbags, anyhow -- as he put them with the other accessories.

Pixie Dust was open.

Yurika had followed Romeo back to the shop after class (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1800727.html), wanting some entertainment.

"What do you think?" she asked, legs swinging as she sat on the counter. "Wanna go try and catch a lemur, later?"

"Do you think Alea would get along with one?" Romeo asked idly. He'd decided the swimsuits were as organized as they were going to get and was leaning on the counter, looking up at her. "Or do you just want to catch it and release?"

If the latter, his tone suggested, he was up for it. To hell with monkey bites.

"I was thinking of giving it to Rikku, actually," she teased, reaching over to play with his hair. "Or, if we catch one of the black, white, and red ones, send it to Reno's partner. I'm sure it'd be less-trouble than he is."

Romeo snickered. "I can see Rikku with a pet monkey, and she has a single room. We should go catch one when I close up here. It'll be an act of charity."

"Have you met her cat?" Yurika shook her head, grinning. "Giving Petey a new 'friend' might cause much kitty-flailing. He's a bit of a spaz." Which was a nice way of putting it.

"But a Rikku with a wee monkey on her shoulder would be adorable! It'll be the new accessory, all the girls will want one." She mimicked a Vogue pose and laughed. "Think Tink-senesi will stock them?"

"Tres fashionable! She'd stock them, especially if she could give ones that bite to girls she dislikes," Romeo decided, applauding the pose. "If one is too nice, or named Wendy, she would only sell them a biting pet monkey."

"She could create an army of monkeys, to go after the ugly people. Fashionista monkeys that herd you to a stylist, or beat you until you burn the ugly clothes."

Yurika was possibly having a bit too much fun with the idea.

"Perhaps some of them could be guerilla stylists," Romeo pondered. "Four monkeys to hold you down, while a fifth did your hair or nails or changed your shirt."

"They'll need a little lemur-sized camera, too, to take before and after photos," she said sweetly. "It could be the next great reality show! We'll make a fortune!"

He bit his lip to hold back a laugh. "With us hosting, of course, and so achieving fame as well as fortune. I would start work on a monkey trap if you begin calling producers."

"Besides, we get to market to both our worlds, not just one," she answered, leaning over to kiss the top of his head. "We're brilliant! Now we just need the monkeys."

"Um, how does one train a monkey to do hair properly?"

This was a difficult question, and took serious consideration. That was why he tilted his head up to kiss her hand; it helped him concentrate.

"Wigs," he said at last, brightly. "Give them lots of wigs, and lots of bananas when they style the wigs, and whatever they do counts as avant garde. And hopefully the skill transfers to people."

"Or perhaps the producers could find the monkey trainers."

"We shall give them the wigs to start with, then, and leave the rest up to the producers." Dōjima nodded, satisfied. "Let them deal with the details."

"See? Who needs college? Clearly, we are going to take over the world with monkeys."

"'Tis good to have my future settled so readily," Romeo agreed. "College sounds cruel anyhow -- the session of that workshop this week was all about finals at 8 a.m." This was spoken in a tone of horror. "I should rather take my chances on finding a life among monkeys and wigs."

Dōjima gave him a look of undiluted horror. "Eight? In the morning? That's inhuman!" she said, shaking her head. "If you'd rather take your chances with monkeys, I wouldn't blame you. Hearing things like that makes me glad I'm skipping the higher education route."

"So you've decided that for sure?" Romeo asked. "I'm still trying to make up my mind. It's not as though I have a better alternate plan."

Billiards and absinthe had made for an acceptable few months in Paris. It wouldn't work for a lifetime.

"Decided?" Dōjima snorted and kicked her legs out. "My Japan is very very different from America when it comes to college. Only the smart people with some sort of grand plan get into a university, most of us are done after senior year of high school."

"There's a job somewhere in the vast reach of the Dōjima holdings with my name on it. The only undecided part is if they're sticking me in one of the Japanese offices, or shipping me overseas so they don't have to deal with my tantrums."

"I'd think the tantrum you would throw about being left with savages would be worse than anything you could do in Japan," Romeo pointed out, tilting his head way up and trying to go for a kiss. "And I suppose I'm lucky it's a choice here, or I'd be done for for sure."

"Europe isn't that bad," she mused, deciding to indulge the implied request for a kiss. "Although I seem to be becoming rather fond of those uncivilized American boys."

He lifted himself against the counter, reveling in the kiss for a moment. "I am glad I've helped sway you at least that much," he murmured. "When would they tell you?"

Dōjima shrugged one shoulder. "Tomorrow, the week before graduation, the week after, who knows? Whatever suits my father's needs in regards to networking or wheeling and dealing." She snorted in a very un-ladylike fashion. "He's probably already decided, and just isn't telling me so that I can't sabotage it in some spectacular fashion."

"You could just not appear when you're summoned," Romeo suggested, not pleased by the idea of losing her to her father's corporation. "We could hide in France or Mexico, in my world or yours, until your father is tired of looking."

It was a fantasy, he knew that, but a nice one.
