Savannah was once again at the store.

She had spent the early morning after coming back from the beach cleaning and rearranging the entire store, and now she was sitting behind the counter with an extra large coffee and a notebook. She might have been making a list of things from Benecio... or writing notes about the Cabals.

Who knows with Savannah?

Anders still had some nice colorful bruises all over his face when he stopped in to check up on Savannah; it was a good thing he hadn't been listening to the radio, or quite frankly he'd be more bruised than he was right now.

You know, assuming he'd be able to walk right now.

. . . not like that, sheesh.

Savannah's eyes widened when she saw Anders and she came around the counter.

"Big Sib what have you been into?"

"Today? Nothing, really," he said evasively. Usually not a good tactic in these situations.

Definitely not a good tactic to use on Savannah right now.

"Anders..."

Anders sighed. "Yeah, okay, I did say I was gonna kick his ass. Turned out to be more equal-opportunity."

Savannah stared at him.

"You... oh Anders, you didn't!"

"Yeah, I kinda did," he said, squaring his shoulders. Wasn't like he was ashamed of it; it had been satisfying.

"But why?" She shook her head. "I didn't want you guys to be fighting!" She might have flailed a little. "I've hurt him bad enough, he doesn't need his friends trying to kick his ass."

Yes, she thought Anders and Johnny were friends.

Goof, Anders wanted to say but didn't.

Instead, he sidestepped that indirect question. Sort of. "Friends are s'posed to smack sense into you when you need it too, y'know." Oh, the memories of thwappings upside the head he'd gotten from Parker. Still so vivid. And countless.

Savannah leaned against the counter. "He's going to think I put you up to it, you know."

She ran a hand through her hair. "Do guys know how to deal with anything in ways that don't include them trying to bloody each other?"

"Yes," said Anders, who hoped she didn't press him for details because he couldn't think of any. "And if he blames you for it I'll kick his ass again." Not that he'd done that, exactly, the first time, but details . . .

Savannah gave her a weak smile. "Hey, mom."

"How you holding up?" Eve asked softly. "You need anything?"

"The guy I love to like me again?"

"Okay, you need anything I can actually do for you?"

Though if she could get Johnny to like Savannah again, she'd do it in a heartbeat.

"Shot of vodka with a Grenadine vodka chaser?"

"Can't do it now, but I can do it after work. That okay?"

"I'll meet you there. Lots of alcohol, talking, maybe some singing and dancing."

"That? Is one of the best plans I've heard in a while."

"Then it must happen," she said quietly.

"Then it will."
