The York Gallery; Sunday [ 06/06 ]

After she'd gotten everything out and put together all nice and orderly for the little Sunday tea luncheon snacks she liked to have available on Sundays, Charlotte settled behind the computer at the desk and kept herself very busy with work. The work had nothing to do with the gallery itself or the current exhibit, though. She was very excitedly refining the little details of her workshop syllabus, especially now that she had a roster of sorts of students to expect. She wasn't sure she knew any of these kids yet but she was sure that they were all going to have a really fun (and informative!) time.

It was just all so exciting! As long as she kept the disastrous worse-case scenarios out of her head...

Charlotte is there for whatever you may need, and won't even be annoyed to be interrupted.

With a bouncy stride and whistling a happy tune, Dale strode into the reception area and gave Charlotte a grin.

"Well, Good day to you Miss York," he said cheerfully. "How are you this fine day?"

"Dale! Hi!" This was certainly an interruption to her updating a list of her favorite places to shop that she didn't mind in the slightest; Charlotte met his greeting with a big smile. "I'm very well, thank you. I can see you're in a pretty good mood too, it seems."

Which really only made her mood brighter by proxy, really.

"Well it's a nice brisk day, I haven't had a carrot all week and I'm all caught up on my work that I missed," Dale replied. "So I thought I'd drop by and see how my favorite art gallery owner and bunny caretaker was doing."

"You're all caught up on your work already?" Charlotte asked, smile broadening as her head tilted. "Of course, not that I'm at all surprised, but that's wonderful! Very industrious of you, Dale."

"Well it's all about having a system of organization and sticking to it," Dale said with a firm nod. "And of course a little coffee now and then doesn't hurt."

He then peered over to see what Charlotte was working on. "New exhibit?"

Charlotte shook her head. "Not quite," she said, her grin turning a little proud, and very excited, and her shoulders straightened accordingly. "It's for the workshop I'm running this semester!"

"Well good for you!" Dale said with his trademark thumbs up. "Reaching out to the island's youth is very admirable. What is your workshop about?"

Somehow, Charlotte certainly knew that she'd have Dale's approval, but that didn't stop it from feeling absolutely wonderful receiving it. She beamed a little more and proudly announced the topic of her workshop.

"Shopping."

And before he had any chance to revoke his admiration, she quickly added, "But it will be very informative, I assure you. We'll be working with knowing how to spot quality, and bartering, and, most importantly, budgeting, because there are far too many people out there who don't know when to say no. Have to install good shopping habits when they're young so they don't turn out like my friend Carrie and having to barely manage to pay rent because she couldn't say no to a pair of shoes." Charlotte concluded with a very decisive nod.

"Charlotte, I can't think of a better workshop for you to teach," Dale said with a nod of admiration. "Other than art of course, but today's youth do need a guide on how to look for quality in today's marketplace and proper budgeting. After the weekend in Paris, I can fully attest to your abilities."

"Ohhh, thank you, Dale," Charlotte said, wondering her her smile was already reaching its brightness capacity. It was possible, she supposed, but then Dale seemed to have a rather effortless way of making it exceed what she thought was its limit. "That's very kind of you to say. I just hope that I'm able to teach the kids something useful, but that they still have a good time."

"Well if any of them give you any trouble?"

Dale jabbed his thumb towards the direction of the police station.

"I'll toss 'em jail and they can eat Ralph's cooking."

"Oh, thank you!" Charlotte gave the, um, man a kind smile when he approached. She was hoping he might have some remarks to make. Noticing that he was clearly of a different stock than the people she was used to, she was terribly interested to hear his perspective on things when he went in, but didn't want to interrupt his viewing of the gallery. "It's definitely one of my favorites I've done before...."

"It certainly inspires one to think," he replied. "And an interesting choice of medium for some of the pieces." Artwork on the side of buildings was not something he was accustomed to.

"The inpiration to think is one of the key elements I always look for when choosing an exhibit," Charlotte said, nodding a little, glad to hear that, even if it was rather vague commentary, the exhibit was doing the job she intended. "If you don't mind me asking, do they have exhibits like this where you're from?"

She really hated to assume of course, but, in this case, she felt it was a pretty safe guess that her patron was not exactly from around here.

"I have seen some, yes. The station I stayed at had numerous exhibits, both of art and of history. Of course, many of the other races' home worlds also had such things. My own, however..." he trailed off for a second, "We are working to restore that."

Extremely relieved to be affirmed that her assumption was correct, Charlotte smiled a little easier. "And you're a fan of art, I take it? Or just a victim of curiosity in this case?"

"Charlotte York," she offered back with a smile. "It's nice to meet you, too. And, if you don't mind me asking, I mean, I'm sure you get it all the time around here, but where is it you're from exactly?"

She knew it was unlikely that she would have even heard of it, but it just seemed to be the sort of thing you should know about someone when you met them and they were quite clearly...not what you were used to.

"Narn. It is in a universe much different than this one. I have not encountered anyone yet that has heard of it. I'm also quite a bit from the future," he added.

"I think I'd much rather be asked where I'm from in preference to staring at the spots," he grinned.

"Well," Charlotte said, turning a little red since the thought had more than once crossed her mind, "staring is hardly polite, isn't it? I mean, they are just a characteristic of your...race, right?" Was race the proper term? It seemed nicer than species. "They aren't...from a disease or anything, are they? Cancerous? That sort of thing?"

She asked these all very delicately, giving over to her curiosity, but carefully treading on such subjects.

G'Kar wandered around the exhibit, studying each piece quietly. It was the first time he'd ventured into the gallery.
