Pixie Dust, Tuesday, July 8

The very nice thing about Romeo's last class being first period was that it meant he could just open the shop after class, instead of needing to leave and come back. The other nice thing about the day was that it was warmer, almost a temperature he considered fit for humans.

So, all things considered, he was in a decent enough sort of mood as he set up for his shift. Once the more hideous of the new arrivals were consigned to the back room and the window display was updated to offer a hopeful array of beachwear, he settled behind the counter with a magazine.

Pixie Dust was open, to humans or polar bears alike.

She was going through the various stores today, seeing what was different and what was the same from what she knew. This was definitely one of the different ones, all these kinds of clothes and so many of them with so little... complication.

She liked it.

A look at the prices assured her that the place was quite reasonable (and also, the only one in town) and it was with a faint glow of triumph that she purchased a blue dress in what she approximated to be a more modern style. She also bought a number of undergarments, as she assumed they would be necessary for a modern dress, even though she, yes Abby Irene, felt a bit scandalized just to pick them up in a storefront.

She made her purchases and moved on, quite a bit more cheerful than she'd been the last few days. She'd gotten ample sleep (Mary was relieved), had a lovely breakfast (Mary was amazed), and she had a class to teach as well as lunch to go to tomorrow.

Richard and her secondary exile aside, she felt rather good.

Chuck had been exploring the town when he came across the Pixie Dust. Initially he wasn't going to go in (he doubted any stores in town catered to his taste) but he saw Romeo inside and decided to stop in.

"Romeo, just the guy I wanted to see," Okay, Chuck wasn't specifically looking for him but he had meant to see him sometime before Friday.

"Yes. My friend Blair and I are throwing a party Friday night. Everyone is invited of course," Chuck looked less than pleased about that. "But you'll be considered VIP, should you choose to come."

Chuck had little doubt in his mind that Romeo would show up.

"Yep. Blair from modeling class," Chuck confirmed. "We're hoping to have it on the mainland. Blair wants an Antarctic theme. As far as I know there's no drinking age in Antarctica and just about everything is legal. There shouldn't be any difficulties."

And if there were, well, that's what bribery was for.

"Well, we've been throwing parties for a while. Practically experts," Chuck said, shrugging. It was true. "Should make for a good time. Feel free to bring whomever you want. Blair and I love to meet new people."

That wasn't entirely a lie. They did like meeting people. They either turned out to be worth talking to or they turned out to be targets for their mockery. It's win-win, really.

"I always appreciate a girl who knows how to enjoy herself," Chuck said. He wasn't leering at all. Really. "Can't wait to meet her."

"Excellent. See you there," Chuck gave Romeo a slight wave goodbye before leaving the store.

Oh look, it was a bear. A big, furry white bear, and it lumbered its way into Pixie Dust with a rather hopeful expression on its face.

The bear's ear went forward and it padded closer, then produced a bottle of ribbon branded cola drink and offered it to Romeo, looking hopeful.

It looked confused, then gave a sort of bear shrug and reared up on its back legs, holding out the soda and waggling the bottle in invitation.

It nodded enthusiastically, watching Romeo closely to make sure he actually drank. That was the most important bit, after all.

The bear bounced on its front paws in happiness, then turned tiny tail and padded out.
