Pixie Dust, Tuesday, July 22

One nice thing about having Ms. Bell for a boss, Romeo reflected as he opened the store a little before lunchtime, was that she was almost guaranteed not to notice if he came in an hour or two late. She might not even notice if he failed to come in at all, but it was a lovely day and hanging out in the store for a few hours wouldn't kill him.

Though, if he kept refilling his water bottle with ale from the bathroom spigot, he might manage that well enough himself. Especially if he followed through on his really excellent inspiration to stage a bonfire of the ugliest clothes in the store.

Pixie Dust was open.

Drunk Veronans probably aren't the best at judging what you should wear, anyhow.

Rikku -- smelled like she had showered in rum. Because she had! And she had swallowed some of it, and then swallowed more of it, so Rikku was ... a little tipsy.

"Hiiiiiiiii," she announced, thumping against his counter. "How's come there's so much booze today?"

Because the island loves us and wants us to be happy," Romeo announced from the floor, where he was gleefully dividing a pile of miniskirts into "keep" and "Fire, NOW" piles. "Good day, Rikku. How are you?"

"A little tipsy," she said cheerfully. "An' a little drunk. And sticky. Stiiiiiicky. 'Cause my shower was all booze. I'm gonna ... I'm ... prob'ly gonna try to ... be sober. For class. Later. Maybe a nap? But for now I'm tipsy. How're you?"

"A little tipsy," Romeo agreed, with a giggle because tipsy was a funny word, as he set a fringed, mustard-colored suede skirt in the "burn it!" pile. "But I already had class, 'n that was just auto mechanics, and now I just need to keep the store from burning down and take care of anybody who comes in. An' I can do all of that tipsy."

Most people got flowery when they were drunk. Romeo economized.

"I had that class!" Rikku bounced. "Not today. I mean. Last time. And the day everyone's underwear went all over the place, my really cute bra with the ladybugs ended up in the carburetor."

When Rikku got tipsy, she overshared.

Luckily Romeo was not easily offended, tipsy or not. "You have a bra with ladybugs?" he inquired brightly, clumsily reaching for Rikku's top. "I have to see this. My apologies to your man."

"It's not ladybugs today," she giggled. "You're not liiiiiistening. Today's pandas! Seeeeeeee?"

He probably could see, yes, since she yanked her top up to show it off for him.

When she sobered up, she was going to hope that Dojima did not own any knives.

Romeo watched the flash, almost stunned, then started laughing hard. "That is the cutest thing ever," he told her, wondering where you even got bras with pandas on them. "So you want some ale? I'm refilling my water bottle."

"Yes, please!" Rikku said, bouncing on her toes. "And I wish I had some water. To actually shower with. I mean, I smell funny. I guess we're supposed to be too drunk to notice?"

Well, in that case, she certainly needed more beer.

"My hair is sticky," Romeo told her, handing her a mug of ale. "And I smell like a brewery."

Clearly, the cure for this was a healthy slug of his drink. "I'm not sure I entirely care."

"You should see if Dojima likes it," she grinned, taking the mug and knocking back a little of it. "Maybe it could be a new perfume. Cologne. The guy-one. You know whta I mean?"

"Cologne or aftershave," Romeo agreed. "Reno'd buy it by the case, probably. No, Reno would make it."

"He probably doesn't smell much different," she giggled. Which wasn't true. Reno had his very own Reno-smell that she was a big fan of. Still. "I should go show him my pandas. But he has radio tonight."

The broken hamster wheels of logic were only running at half-capacity today.

Romeo couldn't remember if the skirt in his hands was meant to be kept or burned, and settled for simply dropping it, then following it by flopping backward into the mound of miniskirts. "You and Reno," he declared, "need someone to teach you about quickies."

"I thought those were bad," she frowned. "The ones where it's over and you have to be all, hey, yeah, no, that's cool. 'Cause otherwise they'd get all --" Vague gesturing.

Really, really overshared, when she was drunk.

It took Romeo a few tries to process what Rikku was being euphemistic about. "The lady," he finally said, once he thought he'd untangled it, "should always get to decide when things are over. It's not supposed to only be fun for one party."

He ran a hand through his hair. "Does the radio station have bathrooms?"

He was asking, of course, purely out of idle curiosity.

"Oh, it isn't," Rikku said emphatically. "Fun for just -- I mean, that's not a -- I'm good. Reno's not --"

This would be where Rikku realized how much she was oversharing, and facepalmed.

"It might," she said. "Or maybe I jump him when he leaves. Not literally. 'Cause that'd be weird, doing that in the alley by the radio station."

She was not going to admit out loud that it sounded vaguely hot.

"That depends on how protected the alley is," Romeo also overshared. "If it's dark, and it's late, there are certainly worse ideas."

He had the decency to blush a little. "I'm glad things are good for you with him. I'd have to smack him, if they weren't."

Rikku ... was going to keep that in mind. While blushing and pretending she was absolutely not going to keep that in mind. At all.

"Y-yeah, they are," she said, smiling to herself. "Things are ... really good. How are you and Dojima? Speaking of the whole, you know. People we'd have to beat up otherwise."

If prodded, Romeo could have disclosed a long list of locations on the island he and Yurika kept in mind, but he managed to exercise minimal restraint and say something else.

Instead, he grinned. "Things are really good," he said. "We're coming up on six months, you know. I honestly thought my heart was dead, after ... after. But now I believe I won't ever finish swimming."

"Six months?" she said, giggling. "Wow. That's ... oh, wow, we've gotta be getting up there, too. It's been since ... Valentine's? I think?" She frowned. "I don't know how to count it. I mean. We kinda weren't together, and then we sort of were, and ... it's all confusing."

Which totally wasn't important. She smiled, instead. "Hearts are pretty resilient," she said. "You think they've rolled over and given up on you, and then you get blindsided by something amazing. It's pretty neat, huh?"

"I have no idea when we should count from," Romeo admitted. "Valentine's, I guess. It took us a good month after that to decide we were a couple, and that's not considering Paris. I should ask her." Because Romeo's inclination was to count from when she told him to quit playing with their egg-child, and even fuzzy he suspected that wasn't quite right.

He gave Rikku an angelic grin. "Hearts are awesome."

"Definitely ask her," Rikku nodded. "That's not the kinda thing you want to get wrong, you know?"

Hrm. Maybe she should talk to Reno, for that matter.

She beamed back at him. "They are. Check us out. I think we're doing pretty awesome here, if I do say so myself."

This required a pose.

Romeo stifled a laugh at the pose before applauding. "You should model, mademoiselle," he told her. "I'm sure Professor Deadpool would approve."

"He's my mentor," she beamed. "I ever tellllll you that? He is. He's awesome. Gave me an ice-cream pony and a gun. Wasn't even my birthday."

"He's teaching my modeling class!" Romeo said proudly. "I put on makeup yesterday."

"But Dojima's still sort of angry at him over the time travel stuff."

"He offered to let me punch him," Rikku explained. "For the time-travel thing. I just kinda yelled and then I felt better. Um. Was it Goth make-up?"

That had seriously been weird, seeing Jude Gothed out for no apparent reason.

"Dark eyeliner and sort of sparkly sheer lipstick," Romeo explained. "The boy working with me did red lipstick and red eyeliner."

Fire! Fire!

If he really burns the ugly clothes, he'll probably get a raise.
