The Park, Friday afternoon 7/25
Murdock had handwavily left Abby Irene a message, asking her to meet him in the park for lunch. He had hated missing their lunch arrangements, but sick as he'd been, he hadn't felt up to doing much over the past week.
Hopefully, this would make up for it.
Some sandwiches à la JGoB, slices of cake and couple of different beverages (since he didn't know what she'd be up for) went along with a blanket he'd spread out on the grass.
(expecting one, but could be open if people want to pester him before or after)

She wasn't a dainty young lady anymore, hadn't been for ages, but she'd do what she could to preserve her skin at this age. And there were enough occasions where she couldn't use a parasol that it was worth it when she could. Mike was just being spoiled, on the other hand.
"I don't suppose the gentleman would mind a bit of company, hmm?"

Abby Irene, on the other hand, lowered herself to the ground with an echo of youth's grace as the parasol was placed on the grass next to her.
"The repast is certainly attractive enough. And the company."
She smiled at him as she settled.
"How have you been? I should hope you're over your illness, or I'll have to insist on bringing you to some sort of doctor here."
no subject
He sat down near Abby Irene with no effert at all and smiled a tad shyly at her comment. "Aww, thanks. And likewise." He wasn't exactly young, but he was fit enough for his age that it hardly made an impact.
A chuckle escaped. "Oh yah. That was some kind of killer bug or somethin'. I don't think I've been so sick in all my life." He grinned faintly, "But I'm feeling much better now."
no subject
"Good. And thank you for the compliment.
"How have your classes been?"
no subject
"You're welcome," he smiled. "They've been good. I only have a few students this term, not quite what I was expecting, but they seem to be liking class so far."
no subject
She smirked.
"I wouldn't be surprised if that really happened, honestly."
no subject
"So," he smirked a bit, "spotted any possible 'troublemakers'? I've had other teachers tell me there's always someone."
no subject
She smiled.
"I have him in my class as well. And it is, you're right, rather interesting but he's always been exceedingly polite and interested."
She looked thoughtfully at the food.
"As for troublemakers, well... no one, really. Then again," and she was grinning now, just a touch smug, "perhaps they sense that I wouldn't tolerate them."
no subject
He didn't miss her glance at the food, and grinning slightly, he offered her a sandwhich. "I didn't know what kind of drink you'd like, so I brought a few
moddable, but likely no alcoholdifferent things. I hope you like it."Murdock laughed again. "I think most of the kids here are pretty good natured anyway. Just sometimes they seem to surprise you."
no subject
She picked up a bottle of cola, opened it, and took a long sip. Then she took the sandwich.
"Thank you."
no subject
He smirked a little, "Before? I guess that means you're not new to this teaching thing, huh? It's a complete first for me," he admitted. "I'm still surprised about it, really."
Whoever heard of a crazy man teaching classes? Honestly?
no subject
She smirked to herself.
"Brilliant. And very... attentive. But a lush all the same."
Yes, Abby Irene had been falling in love with Exactly The Wrong Person for a long time.
no subject
"Maybe their brilliance develops from their flaws?" he shrugged lightly.
no subject
"It's easier to spring on people."
no subject
"My tactic seems to revolve around the crazy aspect," he smirked. Was he joking? Possibly. Or possibly not.
no subject
She gave him a teasing smile.
no subject
"You're...rather charming yourself. You know."
Boy, did that sound corny. Even to him. Why couldn't he ever say the right thing?
Thankfully, he still had half an uneaten sandwich, which provided a wonderful opportunity for distraction.
no subject
"Thank you. I'm somewhat used to men either dreading a visit from me or thinking I'm nothing but trouble."
no subject
He smirked at Mike's antics. "Guess he's a bit hungry too, huh?"
no subject
Then she looked up.
"I assure you, a visit from me is not something anyone in New Amsterdam wants. Either someone you care for is dead, or I'm about to arrest you."
Because you want to scare him off. Good job, Garrett.
"Though I'm glad that is not my job for the moment. And I'm glad that you are pleased to see me. I can say the same of you."
no subject
Plus, Murdock never really got arrested much. It was the men in white coats showing up to drag him off that concerned him. Thankfully, they hadn't found him. Yet.
"Aww, thanks." There he went with that slight flush again. "I'm glad you're here. Certainly makes things lively."
And since most of his socializations seemed to occur with students more often than not, it was nice to converse with an adult. Of course, there was one other he liked to hang with too...

"Hey Mike! Scopin' out for some goodies?" He pulled off a piece of meat from his sandwich and glanced towards Abby Irene. "This okay?" He didn't want to give him anything that he couldn't have, after all. Or something that would possibly make him sick later on.
no subject
"If you can eat it, he will. I try to keep him away from cheese as it blunts their sense of smell, but otherwise it's fine. He's spoiled anyway."
no subject
Though sometimes, it did bother him more than he cared to admit.
But anyway...
"One of those 'see food diets'?" he smirked. "See food, must eat it." Once she'd given him the go-ahead, he held the morsel out to Mike. "Nothin' wrong with a little spoilin'. Animals help people out in a lot of ways, you know."
no subject
Mike, for his part, very carefully pulled the piece of meat out of his hands before putting his head underneath for petting. Abby Irene laughed, just a little.
"Feed him, though, and he'll expect more attention. I suppose I should have warned you of that."
She was still smiling as she took a bite of sandwich, chewed, swallowed, and continued.
"Might I ask what you meant about invisible critters?"
no subject
"Oh," a tiny shrug, "just that I have an invisible dog. He just kinda appeared one day. Billy usually wanders around doin' his own thing, so I don't always see him." He glanced at her and smirked a bit, "Not that anyone can actually see him since he's invisible. Next time he's around, I'll introduce ya."
