Turtle and Canary, Monday (8/11)

Sokka arrived at work late, because he'd spent an hour wandering around the island lost. He'd gone to work dozens of times before without EVER having a problem, and now... Really, it hadn't been until after he'd given up, thrown things, kicked up a fuss, and then turned around and tried to find his way back to the cabins that he ended up right in front of T&C. He was pretty grumpy as he settled behind the counter.

He'd expected some sort of lecture, or angry glares, or something, from Apu, but he was curiously silent about the lateness, and Sokka didn't want to press the issue. Apu, for his part, wasn't about to tell Sokka that he'd gotten lost coming down the stairs this morning.

There was also the problem of the third Squishy flavor. There were two flavors tumbling and freezing away, but the third one was hard to find. Oh, it was THERE, all right. Somewhere, it still existed. It was just lost.

Today's Squishy flavors: Red, Fish Chowder, Grape Judas

"Sokka," Jeff said, wandering into the shop in the same altogether straightforward way that had carried him out of the dorms and to the shop to begin with, "I think Turtle wants to check on the shop."

Demonstratively, the turtle in his arms squirmed.

"She's been for a couple of weeks," Jeff said, shrugging a little. He walked up to the counter, because he was fairly sure Turtle would want to check that, and put her down. "...It happens, you know?" His voice might have been laced with some slight, resigned panic.

Jeff, having absolutely no natural defense against being shaken by the lapels, was shaken in an appropriately lapely fashion. It might've been a miscommunication, but honestly, he wasn't sure himself. It could have even been years! Who knew? All he knew was Turtle was a turtle and now Sokka was shaking him and it made him very, very nervous.

"...I don't know," he rattled, wide-eyed, "Have you checked your watch recently? Sometimes they just sort of spin and you wind up stuck in a closet, you know, they're a bit fiendish aren't they?"

He had absolutely no idea what he was saying.

"The closets, mainly," Jeff said, sounding a bit strangled. "They always seem to be in exactly the wrong-- area." He wasn't lost, but he was now suffering a light case of the vertigo, and he desperately attempted to get a grasp on the turtle before she bumped over the cash register or something. "Turtle!"

The turtle hit his face with a thunk, but at least he'd gotten her. "Five minutes!" Jeff stumbled a couple of steps back. "...A year. I don't know."

It was all one long, distressing stretch of amphibians. Well, he thought she was an amphibian. He wasn't sure about that, either.

"She was brushing her teeth at the time," Jeff said, and now he was sounding absolutely offended, "I could tell by the dental hygiene."

And, you know, it happening right in front of him.

Jeff stared at him dumbly for a moment. "No," he said, finally.

He was used to this kind of thing happening to him.

"Careful," Jeff informed Sokka, "She might be a bit touchy if you try to stare down her shell like that." Pause. "And she's my girlfriend, so I'd rather you don't. Although I wouldn't make a thing of it."

Mostly because he was fairly sure Sokka could beat him up. "...Thanks."

"But she could go back to being a woman at any time!" Jeff declared, shaking the turtle maybe a wee bit in his enthusiasm, "I have to defend her virtue."

The turtle looked like she was mean enough to defend her own virtue, thank you very much.

It was well past time for G'Kar to check up on his employees.

... in his bathrobe.

Seemed there was a small sidetrip from his bedroom to the bathroom.

"Hello Sokka." Calm and cool and... nobody will notice?

Eyeroll. "The robe covers adequately," he replied. Though that didn't stop him from moving toward the aisle. "And how has your day been thus far?" he called out as he went looking through the stacks.

"Of course not," he replied. "Just as I knew that my bathroom door led directly to the shop. It has always been that way, you see." G'Kar stepped back out, with a few things tucked under his arm.

"If you'll excuse me for a moment, I believe I have a bit of business to attend to in the office."

And then he was off...

... there might be some wondering when he didn't return.
