Luke's Diner, Sunday

Not at all late, really, Vala went into work, inspecting to see if there had been any damage from the hurricane, and sticking her nose into the fridge to see if any food had spoiled or if they'd lost power.

Everything seemed fine, so she sat down with a series of lists and magazines and notes about the wedding and waited to see if there would be any customers.

"Coffee and fries, if you could, please," asked Mohinder, as he slipped onto a seat by the counter. He'd forgotten and slipped into his usual beginning of term diet of junk food and caffeine.

He looked up, shaking his head clear. "And how are you?"

"I can," she said, grabbing a cup and the pot of coffee, giving the order for fries to the cook in the back. "I'm doing well, thanks. How's your new semester going? And the students?"

"The first class went well, I think. The students seem relatively normal - by Fandom standards at least," he qualified. "If perhaps a little too interested in explosives."

"Is the diner business keeping you occupied?"

"There's nothing wrong with an interest in explosives," she said, perhaps a tad defensively. Then she shrugged. "It is and it isn't. I've got a number of other things to think about these days, and the work is relatively easy."

"Not when they're needful. It was just an answer I wasn't expecting. "Other things - are you thinking about moving on?" asked a Mohinder who hadn't listened to the radio recently. He smiled and, lifting his cup, added, "I'll have to try harder to complicate you."

"Moving on? Oh, not at all. In fact, I'm getting married." If Mohinder were keeping track, this was Vala's second marriage since knowing him. "Oooh, complications. Not bad."

"Congratulations?" said Mohinder, surprised. "Do I know the lucky man in question? And hopefully not bad ones; I'd try to aim for interesting or unexpected."

"Thank you," she beamed at him. "Maybe? Barney Stinson. It was sudden, except for the part where we're living together in different parts of the house. I like interesting and unexpected, as you know."

Then, "I'm sorry I didn't mention it earlier, but I wasn't quite sure how."

"Barney of the sometime radio broadcasts," Mohinder confirmed. "Have you set a date?"

"Don't be," he replied, leavening awkward with humour. "Though for another time can I suggest a telegraph? Or perhaps semaphore."

"That's him, and we're aiming for the first weekend in November, I think." Not that she completely remembered mentioning that to Barney. Oooh, she should tell him. "I think I was hoping for radio."

"I'm not sure I'd trust the squirrels to be accurate," Mohinder continued lightly, "But I'll be sure to listen for anything further."

"We're inviting everyone, so you're more than welcome," she offered, "although I understand if you won't."

"Thank you." Mohinder nodded. "If it wouldn't be awkward I may have to ask for a dance."
