Town Hall, Saturday Morning

"Mayor Summers!" The staff was hot on Cable's heels the moment he set foot in the building oncemore. "So your deputy handled some of these papers yesterday-- great woman, by the way-- and we were wondering if--"

Deputy...? Well, he supposed the building hadn't fallen over with Robin in charge. He'd have to let her know he was grateful. But now... "I need all the trooper reports of the past 24 hours," he said, "And anything you might have on Nemesis's geography."

"Yes, sir!" They scampered off. Cable took his seat behind the desk and flicked through the days' information at a rapid pace.

Wade was relaxing as he prepared for his fight in the tournament. This, oddly enough, meant stealing a chair from one of the poor aides.

It was spinny!

"Hey, Nate, I can move around everywhere without standing up!"

"Don't break the chair," Nate replied, distractedly. He was peering over a map. A moment later, he added, "Wade?"

Wade rolled back into sight for Nate. "Yeees?"

"It looks like we might be moving out tomorrow," Nate said, tapping his pen against the desk. "I might have a job for you."

"...does it involve heavy lifting?"

"Depends." He settled back. "Our timing is crucial. If the away team is gone too long, Nemesis might start swarming the island." A pause. "I was planning on asking ms. Scherbatsky to man the fort," he continued, "But she'll need protection."

Wade raised an eyebrow. But, you know... mask.

"Body guarding?"

Knowing Wade's feelings about ms. Scherbatsky...

"Am I getting paid?" Wade asked. Not that it mattered, but...

Nate's eyes flicked up, displaying a mixture of amusement and utter deadpan. "Drinks are on me once this is over."

Wade grinned. "Deal!"

"Thank you," he said, returning to his map, "And watch out for the sticky patch."

"Sticky pa--" That would be when the wheels caught on something and he fell over. "Damn you, Summers!"

Nate just smirked a smirky smirk, and ticked off something on his map.

Momoko had thought about it all night and finally decided that as a superhero, she at least needed to offer her help. So this morning found her walking through the Town Hall with a purpose. She knocked on the Mayor's door.

An assistant pulled the door open. "We're kinda busy," she chirped, "Unless it's urgent." Behind her, Cable glanced momentarily over her shoulder.

Momoko had a good history with mayors' assistants. She smiled. "I was hoping to speak to the mayor, if I could. I understand that I may have to wait until he gets a free moment. It won't take much more than that, I don't think. Unless it gets complicated, but I don't think it will so it probably won't."

"Awwwww," she crooned, "You're adorable!"

Behind her, Cable rubbed the side of his head.

"As long as it won't be long," she continued, smiling big as she moved out of the doorway.

Momoko's smile grew bigger and she made a mental note to come back with some muffins after this was all over. "Thank you! I won't, I promise. And it is kind of important." She walked into the office, and let her face drop back into a more somber smile.

"Hello, sir. Sorry to interrupt but I wanted to talk to you. My name is Momoko, Momoko Akatsutsumi. I'm a sophmore up at the school, but back home I worked for the mayor's office. Well I guess I still do technically work for him since he still sends me money. But I'm not there, I'm here, so I wanted to offer my services if you need them."

Cable looked up in full, his hand momentarily stopping its writing motion. He regarded her for a moment, then spoke. "I appreciate you're taking such an interest," he said; she looked very, very young, but appearances had always been deceiving. "But at the moment, it's safer for students in the dorms."

"Yes sir. But as I said, back home I work for Tokyo City. My team and I have been fighting monsters and keeping the city and citizens safe for over two years. Although the rest of my team is still back in Tokyo City, I wanted to make sure that you know that. I don't think it was on my student record, even though my old principal knew because he's the mayor's brother - my mayor, not you, sir, obviously - so I thought I should come and tell you. Especially now."

He... was going to have to put that in his files. "Again, I'm glad to see you're eager to help," Cable replied, "What we need most right now is to boost island security." Askani preserve him, it was always the kids. "Think you might want to run a patrol?"

"Usually we get called in after the villain has already been discovered, so I'm not used to patrolling, but I am willing to try. The monsters and villians in my world aren't very sneaky and tend to not hide unless they aren't actually doing anything bad. And if they're not doing harm, we wouldn't need to patrol for them." She frowned and tapped her chin. "I should also say that in my world, my hero identity is secret from my real life identity. I don't know if that matters here or not."

"I'm not asking you to get on a stand and tell all," he replied, his eyes shifting back to his plans. "But keep your eyes peeled. There have been random attacks all over the island. If you want to contribute, keep me updated on anything you see. Only intervene if absolutely necessary."

Momoko bounced on her toes and gave a quick grin. "Yes sir! I will. Thank you for your time! And I'll definitely be careful. One of my friends was already attacked, but that was on the other island and he's promised to report it to the troopers just in case."

"Good," Cable said, his eyes flicking up one more time. "Thank you," he added, with a nod.

Momoko bowed, then turned and left the office. It was nice to see a mayor that could actually get work done without having an assistant practically hand-feed him. And he was much nicer looking than her mayor. It totally didn't matter, he was way too old, but it still made her giggle.
