Wellspring Arms, Tuesday

Temari had managed to somehow lose the damn atlas of Europe upon setting it down... somewhere at the front desk of Wellspring Arms. How... was beyond her. But now she was digging through things to find the damn thing before anyone realized her insanely stupid mistake.

If this was the island playing tricks, she was going to hit something.

When she's not glaring at the desk for swallowing up her book.

"Morning," Cable greeted on his way down the stairs. Well. She was... industrious this morning. He chose not to comment.

For now. The dog trotted happily near his ankles somewhere.

Temari made a noise that could vaguely be a greeting. Or it might have been from her bumping her head on the desk.

He snuck up on her. Hn.

"Cable."

"...Try not to damage the furniture," he deadpanned, moving around the desk. Tether had no such courtesy.

He was more interested in the fact that Temari's face was now roughly near his eyelevel.

"I have yet to do so," She said, eyes wide for a moment as there was a dog right there. Patting him on the side, Temari looked over toward Cable. "Is there a problem?"

"Not particularly," Cable noted, "Although I do have a matter of work etiquette to discuss with you."

Adding to the point in question, Tether tried to give her a face bath.

"Oh?" That was... annoying. Tilting her head away, she pushed the puppy's face in the other direction lightly.

Cable had had a great deal of time to consider how to phrase this particular point, but that wasn't always possible.

Maybe he should get Robin to have these kind of conversations for him from now on... "Keep it clean in the store."

Tether tried to push back, but he didn't really have the strength for it.

Temari smirked faintly and and rubbed his ears for that. "Clean?"

He'd really rather not go into detail. "Madrox." That wasn't awkward at all.

"I can always make sure he takes a shower before he visits here," She offered, perfectly innocent.

And it wasn't as if she hadn't cleaned the room or anything.

"Or you might find you'll both have a shower next time he 'visits'," Cable replied, utterly personable about that particular threat. Or maybe a bath...

That got him a short bark of laughter. "I was beginning to think everyone here was unable to do things correctly."

"I'm going to take that as a compliment."

"You should," She replied dryly. "People here are too--" Soft. "--they don't seem to understand how to say what is wrong and move on."

He raised one of his eyebrows, but really, it wasn't that surprising. There hadn't been time amongst the Clan Chosen, either. "Every time has its own idiosyncrasies," Cable said, "I like to get things done." That, too, was in part meant to give credence to his threat; but it was a minor thing, really.

"How they survive any attacks is beyond me."

"Barely," he deadpanned. Then, Cable shook his head lightly. "Tenacity can go a long way."

Temari just hummed thoughtfully, giving Tether another scritch that was purely out of reflex.

"There are a lot of ways to save the world," he continued, strolling over to inspect the gun cases oncemore.

Tether sat down. He was happy.

He was simple like that. It was reassuring.

"Most of which don't involve hiding from the truth."

"No," Cable agreed, pressing a hand to the side of one case. "But not all of them involve weapons, either."

"I find that hard to believe," She replied dryly.

"They can be a real hand in an immediate conflict," Cable answered, sliding the case open. "But the world-saving that really matters, happens in the long run, through cooperation and discussion..."

Ah, look. His favorite huge gun.

That didn't exactly go unnoticed by Temari. "I can tell."

He pulled the gun out of the case, then shut the case firmly. "I don't have any illusions about the prevalence of immediate threats." A pause. "Or my ability to handle them."

"Did I question it?"

His next stop was the safe. The ammunition. "Yes," he said, tapping the codes required.

"Then what would be your plan to protect those around you without weapons?" She asked, still idly petting the dog.

This was starting to feel like one of Irene's interviews. Cable pulled open the safe. "The distinction lies between the short-term and the long-term threats," he lectured.

"Hn. There's no difference between the two other than how efficiently you destroyed what was short term so it doesn't become long term."

He took a few clips and slammed the door shut again. "Famine, economic inequality, lack of medical care, disease, political instability... these aren't problems you can solve with your fists," Cable continued, "It's these kind of problems most violent conflict is born of."

"Those aren't what my job is to fix," She said with a shrug.

"Did I question that?"

He jammed the first clip into place.

"Yes."

"If you think so," Cable replied, checking his gun one last time, "You should think about it..."

"I will," She replied. "I'll make sure to inform Madrox his visits are to be curtailed."

"Good." A pause. "You should also warn him to avoid antagonizing Deadpool." Not that that would help, but he was doing his part.

"I'll inform him of it." Be she clearly didn't expect that to stop any behavior on Jamie's part.

He nodded once. "I'll be in the shooting range," Cable replied, "Let me know if anything comes up."

I think I have a meeting tonight too. JOY.

I dunno why the image of Temari losing her book is making me laugh so much but it is!
