It was time for another of those dances! Dances were wonderful because everyone dressed very, very pretty, and most of the stupid teenagers bathed and were not half so stinky as they usual were. How wonderful!

So Tink showed up extra-early on Monday, not nearly so hung over as she might have been, and put all of the fancy, pretty formal dresses right up front. Handsome tuxes and suits. And of course, shoes.

She placed that old sign in the window, the one which read:

And hoped very much that she could hire someone who could start this week, since formal events always created such a crush.

(Recycled OOC note! One: Tink is a complete bitch, and will probably mock your character in a horribly cruel fashion, because ... it's Tink. Two: Pixie Dust is hiring, but she's weird and highly fussy, and only inclined to hire those who are very chic or very bitchy, preferably both. And three: if you ever need someone to talk your character into something he or she would not ordinarily wear, but would be fabulous on them, let me know, Tink can be helpful like that. Lion-o wasn't sure what boys wore to dances on this planet, so he figured his best bet was to ask the tiny shopkeeper for help.

"Excuse me, ma'am? I could use something to wear to the dance, but I have no idea what I should get."

... what on earth was he supposed to be!?

"Oh, I'm not from Earth," said Lion-o, looking a bit embarrassed. "I'm a Thundercat from the planet Thundera. And that's why I need help. I don't know what people wear on Earth, and I want to go to dance."

Oh. He was a crazy person.

He'd certainly fit right in with all the other inmates in this particular loony bin.

Well then! The crazy person who thought he was a stormcat was doomed, but Tink might be able to find him a suit or something. Did he know he'd messed up his eyes? Was that permanent? When he was twenty-something and wanted a corporate job, he was going to wonder why he thought it was really, really cool to disfigure himself and pretend he was some sort of stormcat, and then he would realize it had never been cool.

"Oh, I won't have to worry about finding a job," said Lion-o. "I'm royalty on my planet. One day when I grow up, I'm going to be Lord of the Thundercats."

He was one of those Otherkin, wasn't he? Tink read those sites. Mostly to laugh at the elves and dragons and otterfolk. There weren't many otterfolk. Way more elves and dragons.

Well. At least he had chosen a real animal, sort of, although she wasn't sure what sort of special snowflake a stormcat was supposed to be.

Tink would like to remind the boy that it was okay to be a crazy person on the inside, but on the outside, other people had to look at him. And doing that to his hair was amazingly uncalled for. He should apologize.

Suits! Suits were what normal people wore to dances. He should follow her. And if he started meowing and chewing on things, she would throw him out.

"My hair?" asked Lion-o, confused. "But that's how my hair is supposed to be. And I don't meow or chew on things."

No, hair was not supposed to look like an untamed mop. No generous or kind deity would do that. And how was she supposed to trust him not to spray the corners or rub up against someone's leg and purr when he thought he was a stormcat. Clearly, normal expectations of social behavior did not apply.

Suits! He should get a suit. Did he want a tux instead? Tuxes were more prom-appropriate, but still doable for homecoming. Did he have a date? Was she blind, or in some manner insane? "I think I'll probably get more mileage out of a suit, and I don't exactly have a date," said Lion-o, ignoring the comment about him spraying the corners. He did frown at it, though. Jaga had taught him better than that. "Um, maybe the gray would look best?"

Wonderful! Something medium gray, like that last? "I like that light gray, the one with the vest. And I think I'll stick with a suit, thanks," said Lion-o. "You never know when one might come in handy."

You really didn't! And some shoes? Nice, basic black to go with the suit? You never knew! He might meet some fetching young Otherkin girl who thought she was a flying squirrel and found herself smitten by his hair! That was why one should always look one's best. Come this way! Towards the cash register! That was the best part of the store. It had the absinthe and the money.

"If you say so. How much does that come to?" said Lion-o, pulling out his wallet. The nice thing about being royalty on your homeworld? You had plenty of spending money.

Oh! Ohhhhh, he had money! That was ever so wonderful. Some of the weird people didn't, they tried to pay in rocks and feathers and Tink hated that. Money, credit cards, and occasionally booze: those were payment methods. And one time, a boy had made her into a film star, but that was another story.

Here! Here was his ~~handwavey~~ total and she was very sorry she had said things about his eyes. Not that they weren't true, but it was never very nice to alienate customers with so much money. Yay, money!

The vintage dresses at that last link are killing me with awesome.

I had a dress for each of my students. Then I found that gorgeous vintage site.

... Maybe everyone should just change frequently. "This is my dress, for 7-7:45. Then I switch to the blue number with the sequins ..."

You know, it DOES preclude SOW. You could just say you're doing the Susan Lucci at the Daytime Emmys thing...

The first hour will be elegant evening gowns, and then? Vintage. Third has to be slinky little numbers ...
