It was Homecoming week, and that meant Romeo was at the shop a little early and took extra care in arranging the stock of formal attire. Dances always made for busy weeks at work.

Fancy, pretty formal dresses went right up front. Handsome tuxes and suits were across the store aisle. And of course, there was a wall of shoes.

He thumbed the suits and tuxes thoughtfully as he put them on the racks, not sure what he would wear himself. He supposed he should find out what color Yurika's dress was as a start.

Pixie Dust was open.

Get your formalwear without having to deal with him.

I wish I had an excuse to buy a formal dress.

He'd visited her last week, so Ino thought it was only fair that she visit him this week.

Also, she needed a dress. Two birds with one stone and all of that.

"Romeo!" Ino chirped. "Hi~!"

Romeo put the sequined vest he'd been examining back on the rack with distaste on his face. "Hey, Ino," he said. "Do you need help or is this a social call?"

"Both," she admitted shamelessly. "And an excellent use of my lunch break besides."

"I need to take one of those sometime," Romeo mused. "And I'm glad to see you for both. How are you?"

"You really do," she said, grinning a bit. "Lunch is important! And I'm good? But nothing exciting, I guess. You?"

"Oh, you know," Romeo said airily. "I went to Reno's home last weekend and we helped save the world."

That got a pause, and a blink. "That does help explain why Reno was zombie-like on Monday in class," she conceded, "I'm guessing you were a) successful and b) unhurt?"

"I only got through class because Ms. Carter only had us play pool," Romeo said. "And yes. Unhurt, somehow, and successful. We had to fight a dragon."

It was going to be a while before he was over that.

"And then a rain came and healed the world entire."

"A dragon? Do bullets even work on them?"

A beat.

"...I'm guessing this wasn't regular rain, then?" Um.

"Bullets work on anything, if you shoot at their soft parts enough," Romeo said. "Rikku had some bombs, too. I don't know why it all worked but it did."

And he was still thanking God for that.

"The rain was green. People there were dying from this sickness, stigma, and when it feel they were all healed. So no, not regular rain."

"Well, bombs," yes, Ino considered that part to make the most sense of this battle-strategy.

"Huh." That got more consideration. "Wow, then. That's a seriously good thing right there."

"More than you know," Romeo said, eyes wide in sincerity. "Reno wouldn't have come back, otherwise."

...

...

"...seriously?" It wasn't that she didn't believe him, just... it was a surprise.

"An overpass fell on him, just before the rain started."

That ... really didn't call for more explanation, did it?

"...wow."

Just. Um.

Wow.

Wow was about right.

"It was a miracle."

"I'm, yeah, glad it happened. It wouldn't, you know, be the same..."

You know, without him.

Romeo swallowed. Hard. "I know."

He seemed distinctly uncomfortable with this line of thought as he turned to straighten a row of dresses that were already straight. "So I'm trying, now, to have the quietest week I can manage," he said, sounding brittle.

That was going to get a hug, whether he liked it or not. "How is that working for you so far?"

He accepted the hug gratefully, even though he wasn't sure it was entirely needed. "I haven't left my room except class and work since Monday."

He sounded glad of that.

He'd sounded... odd, and almost... fragile. That needed hugs.

"That's good," she said, smiling. "And if you get stir crazy but don't want to be real social, come bug me and I'll do silly things like make you a crown of daisys to wear."

She would too. And take pictures. And laugh.

He felt odd and old and fragile about the whole thing, but she'd coaxed a small, weak smile out of him.

"You wouldn't," he mock-gasped, sounding more like himself. "i'd have to throw them at you."
