Lucas was having a crisis. He found himself torn between the girls he'd loved for so long and the new, hot stud who he could see really having some enjoyable sex with. And then the guy's ex had punched him at the school dance. Naturally this called for a really good brooding session at the local coffee shop.

"Cuppa joe, please," he flashed a winning smile at the kid behind the counter and took his seat, booting up his laptop to check the highlights of things going on back in Tree Hill. "Oh this is an interesting story," he murmured to himself. "Seems my father killed my uncle in a tragic high school shoot out that was caused by the trickle effect of me getting on the Varsity basketball team last year. And my best friend and half-brother got remarried during senior year after a rocky summer divorce but then tragically are torn apart when their limo crashes on a bridge and my brother jumps in the river to save his uncle who looks like Anders. Damn, that's harsh. Meanwhile my mother, ex-girlfriend, and best friend are all having a pregnancy scare but we don't know whose stick it is. Jesus, I need to call home more!"

Lucas had to laugh, he missed so much. But really, thank god Lucas hadn't been in Tree Hill. Another pregnancy scare was the last thing his emo needed. It was full up with this potential sex with dudes thing.

Peyton wandered in for coffee and waved absently at Lucas. No, there was no boggling over the difference in his looks, after all the same thing had happened to her father.

"Brooding, I see," she said, waiting for her coffee.

"You know me," Lucas forced a smile. "Nothing ever seems simple in my life."

"So what is it this time?" she asked. "Cheating on somebody else? Or just angst-ridden over your terrible relationship with your father and brother. Some of us have real issues, you know."

Yes, Bitchy!Peyton is bitchy.

It was a slap in the face. "Hey, at least I'm not off crying in the corner because I couldn't keep my hands off my supposed best friend's guy." Two could play that game, oh yes.

"Right, but at least I didn't go off and sleep with some evil skank," she shot back. "And who was the one who finally broke it off because it was wrong? Not you!"

"Did you just call yourself a skank?" Lucas asked, amusement apparent in his voice. "I mean, I'm sure Brooke would agree, but..."

"I'm talking about Nikki, you asshole! I never slept with you, something for which I am incredibly grateful right now!" She glared at him. "What, are you having delusions now, too?"

"Oh right," Lucas remembered. "That girl who your boyfriend Jake had a kid with. Didn't she kick your ass at a party?" Lucas didn't understand why Peyton was attacking him today, but he was in a bad enough mood that he just attacked right back.

"just before she outed you, you mean?" Peyton asked. "Look, I just wanted to tell you that if you're the one IMing me with the creepy screen name I'm not finding it amusing, okay? So, funny joke, ha ha and all that and now can you let it go?"

"Yeah, that's not me," Lucas said, looking at her like she was crazy. "I've got more important things to do than harass you."

"You're not this WatchMeWatchU person?" she said skeptically. "And don't even pretend you don't still watch me on my webcam every night. I know you, Lucas Scott."

She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to calm down. None of this was really his fault, after all. "Look... I'm not mad, exactly, it's just the whole adopted thing and Ellie is really stressing me out and I'm sure another time Id find it really funny, but right now? Not so much."

"Are you sure it's not Brooke? Or maybe one of the guys you've been seeing?"

"Brooke? Lucas, Brooke would come up with something a little more out there than that as a screenname. And I'm not seeing anybody. Okay, yes, I did make out with Dean Winchester, but that's beside the point." She shook her head and shivered. "No, I was sure it was you. Okay, now I'm really creeped out."
