Coyote Medicine, 10/14/08

Running a business was kind of boring, but Coyote did like the part where he could sit around and smoke as much as he wanted to. Especially if he didn't get any customers.

He was shirtless, this time, just wearing the buckskin pants and the coyote skin headdress. He let his cigarette dangle from his lips and held a small drum between his knees, tapping out a simple rhythm on it and blowing smoke figure-eights.

The sign was still up and flashing:

The drums are on special.

The Medicine Man is totally "in".

He swears.

But he might get a little distracted.

Annja had seen the sign, and after exploring the store, she thought it might be someplace that she'd like to work.

Oooo, a pretty one. "Welcome to my store!"

Annja smiled. "Hello. I saw your sign and wanted to know what the requirements are?"

That . . . was a good question.

Coyote decided that the first requirement was being pretty. She passed, yay!

"Are you a medicine man?"

"I'm an archaeologist who has studied the medicine men of different cultures and I have taken classes in herbology and alternative medicine."

"So you're smart as well as beautiful." Coyote nodded approvingly. "Do you know the stories of the Absarokee?"

[ooc: Absarokee = Crow tribe]

This one she did know.

"I know a few of them, yes, but I am not an expert."

[[Thanks!]]

"You should learn. They're the best people. I should know, I created them."

[ooc: No prob. Driving to work, I'll be back in about an hour!]

She tilted her head in curiosity. "You write about them a lot?"

[[KK!]]

Coyote snorted, a slightly animal sound. "I made them out of mud and gave them fire and the buffalo."

Annja had seen and heard some strange things -- especially since the sword and coming to this place -- so she wasn't sure if he meant that literally or not.

"Then I'll have to make sure I study up on them, won't I?"

Coyote nodded happily. "I know many stories, if you'd like my help. I star in most of them, of course."

He kept half-hoping she'd recognize him.

"I would very much enjoy your help," Annja said with a smile.

[[Do you want her to recognize him?]]

[ooc: in as much as she might know the story about Coyote creating the crow, sure. But I leave that totally up to you.]

It occurred to Coyote that teaching her stories might qualify as "work". But it'd be interesting work, at least, and he could make sure that he looked good while doing it.

"With training, I think you'll be very qualified for my store. Do you have a spirit helper, Lady?"

Oh now wasn't that an interesting question and she wasn't sure how to answer that. The sword was spiritual and it was a helper...

"Not in the sense that you mean, I don't think."

Because, really, how does one explain to who you hope is going to be your new employer that you are the spiritual descendant of Joan of Arc and you bear her sword?

Coyote would say that you would explain it by saying "I'm the spiritual descendant of Joan of Arc and I bear her sword."

On the other hand, Coyote would have no idea who Joan of Arc was.

"Well, Lady, I think maybe we can start with that. You're hired, when do you want to work?"

"Any day but Wednesdays." Because that was Flight Club and Girls with Guns.

"I don't like Wednesdays, either."

Coyote actually had no feelings in particular to any day of the week.

"How about Thursdays?"

She grinned. "Thursdays are awesome."

Coyote grinned back. "Good! What's your name, Lady?"

"Annja Creed."

Coyote considered this. "That's a good name. I'm Coyote."

"Thank you. I'm pretty fond of it." She extended her hand to shake his. "Nice to meet you."

Coyote grinned wide and shook her hand. His eye teeth were ever so slightly long. "Great! Now strip."

What, she was going to need a sweat bath, first. He wouldn't even watch. Men and women didn't go into the lodge together.

She stared at him for a moment, positive she couldn't have heard him correctly.

"Excuse me?"

"You want to sweat in your clothes? I don't recommend it."

She raised an eyebrow. "What exactly am I going to be doing after I take off my clothes?"

"I just told you. A sweat." He pointed towards the sweat lodge in the back.

She laughed. "Okay, now it makes sense. You have a towel?"

Coyote dug under the counter and pulled out a beach towel decorated with a garish pastel dream catcher.

"That'd be nine ninety-nine."

Annja pulled a ten dollar bill out of her jeans pocket and handed it to him.

Coyote spent several minutes investigating the dollar (a process which involved sprinkling it with various powders and licking it, as well as holding it up to the light) and then very carefully and with great dignity handed her a penny.

"The lodge is free for employees."

Annja decided it was going to be interesting working here.

"Good to know." She smiled. "Anything else I should know?"

"If the cockroaches refuse to clean the bathroom, let me know and I'll talk to them."

Annja stared at him for a moment, trying to decide if he was joking or not.

He wasn't.

"Okay then..."

She turned and headed towards the sweat lodge.

Yep. Interesting.

Coyote was already plotting what he could do with his day off.

And totally ogling Annja as she walked off.

Now extra sweaty!

Dammit, I have to go back to work today. *whines*
