Book Haven - Friday - 10/17

Despite the green of yesterday and the slightly awkward section of yesterday's dinner, Liir was in a relatively good mood. He'd brought a few brownies around for Millie as a thank you for letting him go to the fair last week, he'd come in early and done a thorough cleaning and straightening job, and he was quite happily setting out the tea and cookies when it came time to turn the sign and unlock the door.

He slipped behind the counter with a book on mathematics from the bin at the back and sipped on a jar of pearlfruit tea he'd brought with him.

Joan stopped in, looking for some books about flowers and flower arranging, so she would have a little more knowledge for her job.

"Hey, Liir," she greeted. "How've you been?"

He looked up, a little startled, but grinned at her when he saw who it was.

"Joan, hello," he said with a bow of his head in greeting. "Just fine, other than a spot of greeness yesterday. Yourself?"

"I managed to avoid the color weirdness yesterday," Joan said. "Thankfully. And I'm doing pretty well. Keeping busy."

"It was singularly ill timed but at least over in a day," he admitted with a quick grin before leaning against the counter.

"Can I help you with anything?"

Joan grinned back. "Did you and Penelope have a date last night?" she teased gently.

"And yes, I've got a job at the flower shop and I'm looking for some books about flowers or flower arranging."

He blushed, the color of wine rising on his cheeks. It was singularly ridiculous, with him so pale, but spoke of darker tones than were immediately visible.

"We had dinner. We'd arranged it earlier in the week."

He wouldn't call it a date since Penelope hadn't indicated she wanted such things and no matter what Teddy had said ages, dates meant.. date.

As far as Joan was concerned, that was a date. But she was nice enough to let it go. "Did you enjoy yourselves?"

She was right, of course, but Liir considered himself a coward.

"Very much so," he said.

"Penelope is... really very wonderful. I enjoy my time with her. I was actually very pleased to be matched with her when I got my slip of paper the other day."

"That's good," Joan said. "I had a good time with Marco last week too."

He tried to think back to the time he'd heard that name and had to reach before--

"The--"

Wait.

"I've not really had much dealing with him. I'm glad, though. Everyone seemed to find the Homecoming dance a lovely time."

Joan frowned at his hesitation. "The what?"

"I was thinking of a different Marco at first," he said placidly.

"The wrong one, I'm sure. Sorry."`

Joan shrugged. "Okay. So, anyway, do you have anything on flowers?"
