James T. Kirk Causeway and Into the Island; Wednesday Afternoon [10/22 ]

Daisy had say at her desk, and wanted to sigh, but she didn't. Sighing, she felt, usually gave people the wrong impression, even if there were no people in her office at that time besides herself. The chief had just left, having told her the jolly good news of her transfer, using his words and certainly not hers. "Lovely place, Detective Constable, lovely!" He was not a man to use the word 'lovely' often; this did not bode well.

"Nice quiet town in the States; you'll love it."

Needless to say, Daisy was doubtful, since she loved very few things that could be considered quiet, especially when it came to her job.

Again, she wanted to sigh, but, instead, she looked around her office. Technically, it was hers until five, so she picked up the phone. She called up her flatmate; she called up her landlord; she called up the airport. Everything had been rather neatly taken care of. "Bless, they were thorough," she remarked to her desk. She wasn't in the habit of talking to inanimate objections, but the London PD had knever been known to her to be thorough, either, so it balanced out.

She sat at her desk and she made some calls, and it was still not five, so she turned to her computer and worked until then, doing what she could, dutifully, before she left. Any signs of suspicious activity went toward someone she hoped would handle it, but knew better.

She did what she could and then there was a plane, which gave her the chance for at least a nap, because picking up and switching spots wasn't something anyone should do without a bit of rest. Especially when there would be considerable jet-lag to combat.

And then she was there, stepping out of a cab and walking beyond a causeway. Smaller island, smaller job, smaller everything.

This time, Daisy did sigh, and that, too, was small.

[[ and there she is; open, naturally ]]

It wasn't often that Fraser got bored in his office but he'd been bored today. So, he'd taken a walk and saw a woman he didn't recognize.

Ever polite, he tipped his hat and said, "Ma'am. Welcome to the island."

"By quite the distance, yes," he said and smiled. "I'm actually employed on this island. Previously, I was a liaison to the Chicago police department. So, not entirely implausible."

"Benton Fraser," he said, nodding again. "Pleasure to meet you, Miss Daisy. Are you just visiting?"

"Ah, you're a new detective then?" he asked, grinning at that. "So, you'll be, most likely, working with Sheriff Mustang since I haven't been told of any new additions to my staff."

"I run the security for the school," he explained, waving a hand in the general direction. "And thus, the security of the students when they're on the campus. Sheriff Mustang runs the town's police department."

"Not too busy," he said after a moment. "We do have...times of high stress but it tends to level off."

"I can assure you that the high stress times are...extremely high stress," he said honestly. "It almost makes up for the slowness."

"Oh, no," he assured her. "You won't be bored. Even the slow days are interesting. And the island is small but it's packed with interesting places to explore, if you enjoy that sort of thing."

"We've a bar," he said, "with karaoke. It does serve alcohol. Restaurants, several of the new. A gymnasium, an arcade and a theater as well. It's not overly teeming with nightlife but it's not too bad."

"It's called Caritas," he told her. "Once you're in town, you can't really miss it. And the band is very knowledgeable when it comes to songs."

And they were zombies but that was a detail.

"Of course," he said. "The station's in the direction you're going in and there's a hotel and apartment buildings in the area as well. I'm sure I'll be seeing you but good luck."

"Welcome, again, and have a pleasant day." With that, he tipped his hat before starting off on his walk again.
