Trooper Station - Thursday

The piles of paperwork on Roy's desk had slunk away, leaving a rather bored Sheriff behind. Not that paperwork had a whole lot of entertainment value. There was a file on his desk which he'd read already several times and now it was pushed to the aside as he seemed satisfied that he'd gotten everything from it which he needed to get.

There wasn't a whole lot left to do and so Roy had picked up that Gameboy which had been thoroughly neglected these last few weeks. That was far more entertaining.

((Open, of course.))

With a morning of plenty of chamomile, water, and vitamin C to combat her jet lag, Daisy managed to get as early a start on her day as she had wanted, so that she could get everything taken care of and, hopefully, in a perfect world, working again fairly shortly. Benton had been right about the island; it was extremely easy to find her way around and honing in on the Trooper Station had been a cinch.

She gave it a bit of a look before coming in, tilting her head at the man on the desk before greeting him. As much as she hated to interrupt anyone, she hoped that Gameboy wasn't indicative of what she could expect, because, really, she could put up with that at London and at least have things to do in her evenings.

"Hullo; you wouldn't happen to be the sheriff, would you?"

Daisy has a second's thought spared for what he might have screw up on in the game, but then old habits took over and she responded almost automatically to the Sheriff's question. "Detective Constable, actually," she corrected, and then hid her wince quite well. "Although I suppose that could be ripe for a change with the transfer and everything. But, yes." She nodded, shoulders straightening professionally. "Daisy Day, reporting for duty, sir."

She supposed, anyway. It was a bit of a quick jump, but she could go with the flow of any current.

Daisy relaxed, but it had more to do with the fact that there wouldn't be any title confusions more than the Sheriff's instruction, and she plopped comfortably, easily into the chair. It wasn't like the title ever carried any weight with anyone other than herself, but it was a weight she liked to carry.

Lax titles were something she was used to; she wasn't quite so used to being met with actual consideration and without condensation from her superiors, though, but she wasn't about to complain.

"Ta. What duties did you have in mind for me, Sheriff?"

What Daisy really wanted to ask was if London told him anything more than they did her (which wouldn't take much), but the last thing she'd do was admit to any incompetence on her part.

A flash of complete and utter weariness, which Daisy had been covering with her enthusiasm even better than all her homeopathic remedies had done, surfaced behind her eyes, but it dived down under the dark depths just as quickly as it had bobbed up. "I only arrived yesterday afternoon," she informed him. "After a full day or work and an eight hour flight."

She'll leave him to decide if that gave her much time for familiarization.

"They were very...stingy with details." Daisy had a feeling that had something to do with the word lawsuit; they weren't ignorant, after all, to her training. "Most I recall is lovely little island, lovely and a mention of your name to report to."

"I did," Daisy offered, helpfully, "encounter a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who told me just as much the same."

"Any situation worth its salt usually does."

Funny; it almost seemed like she said that cheerfully.

Just one.

Because the more Roy talked, the more Daisy's faint smile seemed to fade and she blinked. It was a neutral expression, as close to surprised as she'd ever allow herself to get when her job was involved.

"...really?" she asked, after a careful decision about letting it out. The idea, however, of patrolling and not being chained to a desk or handling nothing but cases of cats growing too fat off their own stupidity and businesses was one of most appealing bits of news that Daisy had received in quite some time.

Daisy nodded, feeling the bubbling of excitement anew in her stomach. Either that, or the past twenty four hours were catching up with her bad and masquerading as excitement. "Would you mind," she asked, "if I spent some time today doing just that?"

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wonderful," Daisy chirped as much as she'd allow herself to chirp at work, which wasn't much, but there was definitely a suggestion of one in her smile. "If there isn't anything else, Sheriff, I'll get right on that."

Sooner it was out of the way, the sooner, perhaps, that she might actually get to embark on the interesting things.

And Roy hadn't rolled his eyes once in the whole conversation! Daisy was starting to feel that maybe this really could be a lovely change for her, lovely.

"Fraud department," Daisy answered crisply, with a nod that finished in no small lift of her chin in pride. "They had me handling almost all the cases dealing with embezzlements, especially computer-related, and I worked a few beats with some hacking and cracking."

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Lordy, she could just picture it now: a fate worse than obvious, predictable embezzlement busts, one reduced to a glorified computer technician with a badge. Everything Roy was telling her so far, of course, pointed in the direction of that not happening, but she was used to her superiors being the sort to point to the sky to mention the rainclouds while pissing on her shoes.

Not literally, of course, thanks to that lawsuit word she'd grown to despise.

"I look forward to the opportunity, sir."

If only he had any idea what sort of tedium she was used to.

And if only she had any idea what she was getting herself into.

Maybe it was just the small town station, but Daisy was a little confused, although pleasantly so, that Roy bothered with personal chit-chat; perhaps, though, he was just being polite. It had been a while since she was new to a force. She nodded, giving him a smile. "I've got me a nice little apartment handwavily over at...what was it called again? Right, Malchanceux Harris Apartments. Funny name, innit? Anyway, seems as sparse as they were with me in details, they certainly didn't leave any uncovered on technicalities."

If she sounded just a wee bit confused by that, it was because she was, to the point where her natural honesty overrode her professional veneer. It was just that she wasn't exactly used to the London PD being so...thorough.

Daisy hesitated to answer that pointed question because the answer itself was not quite so pointed at all. She rolled a few possible, discrete answers in her head before settling on as close to the best one as she felt she'd get.

"I feel I would have been briefed with the reason, sir," she said, carefully, "if it were important."

Or, if she wasn't told, well, then, she'd find out herself.

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're not really chatty in my department," Daisy offered. Not with her, anyway, but she'd never really fit in there. She actually did this little thing called work...

If they were in a different setting and he was anyone other than her boss, Daisy would have responded to that with a smile, holding up both her hands and pointing out that, well, look at that, she had two.

But since they weren't, and he wasn't, though, she nodded. "I'm glad to offer it, sir."
