Trooper Station - Thursday
The piles of paperwork on Roy's desk had slunk away, leaving a rather bored Sheriff behind. Not that paperwork had a whole lot of entertainment value. There was a file on his desk which he'd read already several times and now it was pushed to the aside as he seemed satisfied that he'd gotten everything from it which he needed to get.
There wasn't a whole lot left to do and so Roy had picked up that Gameboy which had been thoroughly neglected these last few weeks. That was far more entertaining.
((Open, of course.))

She gave it a bit of a look before coming in, tilting her head at the man on the desk before greeting him. As much as she hated to interrupt anyone, she hoped that Gameboy wasn't indicative of what she could expect, because, really, she could put up with that at London and at least have things to do in her evenings.
"Hullo; you wouldn't happen to be the sheriff, would you?"

She supposed, anyway. It was a bit of a quick jump, but she could go with the flow of any current.

"It seems that so far we've kept a fairly lax policy when it comes to titles, Detective Constable," he explained. "Our forces here are a mix of several worlds and so I've let people keep the rank they had. It seems like the lesser headache even if it would make my superior officers back home cringe."
He nodded at her and motioned a hand towards one of the seats in front of his desk. "At ease."

Lax titles were something she was used to; she wasn't quite so used to being met with actual consideration and without condensation from her superiors, though, but she wasn't about to complain.
"Ta. What duties did you have in mind for me, Sheriff?"
What Daisy really wanted to ask was if London told him anything more than they did her (which wouldn't take much), but the last thing she'd do was admit to any incompetence on her part.

She'll leave him to decide if that gave her much time for familiarization.

Funny; it almost seemed like she said that cheerfully.

"Most of the time we'll be dealing with the embarrassing situations so I'm afraid there will be a lot of desk work, but right now the station is understaffed. The troopers go on regular patrols and I'll be expecting you to join them on a few of those." This time he did wait to see if she had any further questions before he proceeded.

Because the more Roy talked, the more Daisy's faint smile seemed to fade and she blinked. It was a neutral expression, as close to surprised as she'd ever allow herself to get when her job was involved.
"...really?" she asked, after a careful decision about letting it out. The idea, however, of patrolling and not being chained to a desk or handling nothing but cases of cats growing too fat off their own stupidity and businesses was one of most appealing bits of news that Daisy had received in quite some time.

Sooner it was out of the way, the sooner, perhaps, that she might actually get to embark on the interesting things.
And Roy hadn't rolled his eyes once in the whole conversation! Daisy was starting to feel that maybe this really could be a lovely change for her, lovely.

"The only suggestion I have is that you take a look at the board in the meeting room. It has the schedule of the trooper patrols on it, just see if you can go with one of those. It's the quickest way to getting to know the island," he suggested.
"What kind of duties were you required to uphold in London, Detective Constable?" he asked, casually. It was in the file, but there was a difference between having her tell him.

Not literally, of course, thanks to that lawsuit word she'd grown to despise.
"I look forward to the opportunity, sir."
If only he had any idea what sort of tedium she was used to.
And if only she had any idea what she was getting herself into.

He nodded. "Have you managed to find somewhere to stay yet?"

handwavilyover at...what was it called again? Right, Malchanceux Harris Apartments. Funny name, innit? Anyway, seems as sparse as they were with me in details, they certainly didn't leave any uncovered on technicalities."If she sounded just a wee bit confused by that, it was because she was, to the point where her natural honesty overrode her professional veneer. It was just that she wasn't exactly used to the London PD being so...thorough.

"I feel I would have been briefed with the reason, sir," she said, carefully, "if it were important."
Or, if she wasn't told, well, then, she'd find out herself.

But since they weren't, and he wasn't, though, she nodded. "I'm glad to offer it, sir."
