Arms Hotel Lobby, Wednesday

Jeff's mother hadn't found him all weekend.

He was happy. Gleeful. Ecstatic, even. He was grinning all throughout his shift, in a careful, Jeffish kind of way.

He had, however, so far had trouble detaching himself from the mask that, in his opinion, had saved his life. That might've gotten him some stares from Gunther, yes.

In the morning, Simon was on his way out when he noticed the strange boy, who seemed a lot more cheerful than last week. He smiled and nodded to him.

"Good morning," Simon replied. "Enjoying your day?"

"That's... good." He paused. "Your mother seems quite frightening." He tried not to smile.

"A good thing then." Now he smiled a little. "No one showed up for me either, but I didn't expect anyone." After a short pause, he continued: "Did you know my sister? River? She went to school here and worked at the hotel."

"She did. Then she was kidnapped. I came her to try and find her, only to hear she had been dragged off to another universe." This was probably pointless, but somewhere he wished that someone would tell him they knew how to find her.

No, he didn't expect it to be Jeff.

"Yes," Simon replied. "But hopefully I'll find her." He nodded to Jeff. "Glad to hear you survived the weekend," he said, then turned to leave.
