Loki still had some Halloween candy left over so you can bet your ass that's what he was eating for breakfast. He never believed in the fucking stupid food pyramid anyway. Life was way too damn short to eat turnips and beets just to keep yourself healthy.

There was a pile of candy on his desk, hiding almost all the paperwork he'd had the pipe dream of completing. What the fuck ever. Candy was better.

Ben had a place to work and he'd had breakfast and he had some clothes that he'd bought from himself. The other thing he needed right now was a place to live because the floor of the store wasn't exactly ideal.

So when he spotted one of the island's taller buildings that happened to look sufficiently apartmenty, he figured it might be a good idea to go ahead and check it out.

"Good morning," Ben said, walking up to the guy in the lobby. "I saw a sign that said you had apartments to rent. I'd like to rent one of them."

"Goddamn, another new one?" Loki asked, flicking a candy wrapped across the desk. "Don't you people go to bigger fucking cities?"

"I just came from New York," Ben said. 'Just' in this case, was a relative term, of course. "I'm looking for something a little quieter for a while."

"You picked a really damn good place then," Loki said. "Quiet is all this place is until they have some fucking huge event where everyone and their brother shows up to crawl around the island like cockroaches."

"Oh, so this town is some kind of tourist trap or something?" Ben asked. He was kind of amused by the cockroach simile. That meant this guy would at least be one of the more entertaining landlords Ben had dealt with over the years.

"Tourist trap?" Loki scoffed. "Hell no. People actually come here to stay here like they're going to find the fucking meaning of life or something."

"You never know, it could happen," Ben said. At least he hoped so, since that was exactly why he was sticking around. "Maybe the meaning of life involves having tiny streets."

"All this place has is an above average bar, some hot women and some guy named Barney that's getting married when he could be fucking famous the world over," Loki said. "Of course, I haven't even been here a month so I'm probably not an expert."

"I hate to ask this before I've signed a lease," Ben said, "but if you don't like the place, why are you here?"

"Not my choice," he said and rolled his eyes. "Punishment. I can't fucking leave. I'm doing service now."

"And your service is maintaining an apartment building," Ben said. "Sorry about that."

"Yeah, thanks," he said and laughed. "My Boss has a really fucking weird sense of humor. But, there's a bar. And women."

"And when you have those two things, how bad can everything else be, really?" Ben asked.

"Exactly," he said and swept away some of the candy from his desk. "So, you want an apartment?"

"Yes. Do you have anything on the fourth floor?" Ben asked. He preferred being as high off the ground as possible. It was a Spidey thing.

"Couple," he said, rifling through some papers. "How's ten? It's fourth floor, got you some neighbors but we don't do fucking room service. I just have to say that now."

"So we don't get your sunny outlook on life with our meals?" Ben joked. "I guess I can go with ten despite that."

"You want my sunny outlook, come knock on my door at way too fucking early in the morning," he said, grabbing the paperwork. "I'll give you all the sunny outlook you can handle plus my damn fist in your face."

"And what time is that in Eastern?" Ben asked. "Just so I can avoid a good morning punch."

"Anytime before ten," he said, just picking a random time. "If there's a maintenance issue...find apartment seven. Some chick named Pepper lives there and says she knows how to fix shit. Get her."

Loki didn't care that Pepper wasn't maintenance either.

"Will do," Ben said. "Anything else I need to know?"

"Don't burn the place down," he said and dropped the keys in front of Ben. "I gotta live here too and it's a big damn apartment. Kinda nice."
