Wellspring Arms and Meditation Center [Sunday]

Biff was sitting behind the counter at the Arms, carefully sketching out a plan for world domination.

Or, you know, a garage sale to get rid of Barney and Vala's stuff.

Hypothetically, of course.

Really.

"Busy as always," Cable commented, as he slipped into the store near noon for a quick inventory check. The dog was skipping at his feet.

"These lists wouldn't have anything to do with peddling wares, would they...?" Cable asked. He might have been able to guess from the peek he'd gotten over Biff's shoulder. He might've known because he was from the future. Take your pick.

"I think I'm good on the toaster front," Cable deadpanned, amused. "How are you, Biff?"

"I can see that," he said, dryly, moving past the desk. Tether skipped towards Biff, making one valiant attempt to sniff his feet. "How many toasters now...?"

"Probably better to make sure before you take it." Cable was nothing if not a sensible man, really.

"I was gunning more for the ethical reasons..." Cable mused aloud, poking at one of the gun cases while he said it. For reasons that were entirely unpunny. "Try kevlar."

"A mostly bullet-proof fibre," Cable explained. With all the time-travelling came an understanding of that kind of confusion. "It might help."

"Probably a better idea," Cable said, shooting Biff another look from the corner of his eye. "It's generally more rewarding to acquire your own anyway..."

"How is mr. Stinson holding up?"

Cable had a fair idea.

"I'm not surprised," Cable replied, checking the next gun case and finding it fine. "Extend him my condolences," he added, with all the appropriate amusement attached to his voice.

Although she still did need a toaster, Daisy came into the arms shop for a different reason today. "Hullo there, Biff."

Kind of nice how it worked out that Sunday was an excellent day to meditate before the start of the week, wasn't it?

"I've come to use the meditation room," Daisy stated, giving a nod in that direction, "but I thought it wouldn't hurt to see how you were, so...how goes it?"

"Oh, no!" Daisy, knowing full well the implications of that, laughed. "But what about all the people in your own community in need of cheap toasters? It's going to go to the highest bidder in Timbuktu now!"

Daisy settled a look on him. "Biff," she said, in a very matter-of-fact voice balanced still on teasing. "If you can come several centuries to be working at a gun shop-slash-mediation room and sell your contender-for-the-shortest-marriage-ever roommates' toasters on eBay, is it really that hard to believe that the son of God could have somehow acquired a notebook and a knowledge of the King's English?"

Not that she was saying that she believed it, of course. Just that it was at least believable.

"Now," she added, "if you wanted to take a sample of his writing and compare it to the one on sale, then you could make a good case for fraud."

"Maybe he's just too embarrassed," Daisy offered, "because he's making his living on eBay."

"Best friend?" Daisy asked, with a quirk of her eyebrow. "So he does play favourites."

"As dumb as that angel you mentioned?"

Re: Talk to Biff

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't suppose," Daisy mused, in a tone almost suggesting or maybe just teasing, "that they would think the same about you, did they?"

"Couldn't have been too stupid, then," Daisy commented; she didn't wink, but her voice sounded like she might have. She cocked her head toward the mediation room before she started moseying on over in that direction. "Better get on that meditation; see you in a bit, Biff."
