Cable had been going through reports for the better part of a week: old reports, from before his appointment to the office. By now, he was a little tired of them and, if he was completely honest, a little bored.

It had been two weeks or so since his last spar.

That kind of thing kept the doubting thoughts far and away from him.

Who is here and more than happy for a distraction.

Once she pings in. For the last time. She thinks. WOE.

Robin was, indeed, fairly sad when she took her place at her desk. For the last time. Though, she hoped her new desk would be as nice. Or at least her chair would.

"Robin?" And that was Cable, appearing in the doorway.

"Hello, Mr. Summers," Robin said, trying to look stoic and not, you know, depressed.

Stoicism was a big thing in this office. He smiled slightly. Encouragingly. Staff management. He was learning.

"I have one last job for you before you leave..."

"Oh?" Robin asked, raising her brows. "I mean, I can totally do whatever you need. I have toooons of time. I don't leave until Friday."

His face morphed into something a little more amused. Almost self-indulgent, really. "I need you to book my vacation," he said, "Wade and I are going to Sri Lanka in December."

"...Sri Lanka?" she asked, tilting her head.

"It's an island in South Asia," Cable said, smart-assedly. "I thought it might be a workable goodbye job."

"No, I know where Sri Lanka is. It's just not where I think of when I think vacation funtimes," she said, rolling her eyes.

"It's a nice island," he replied. "Despite the issues with the Tamil Tigers." Who he wasn't at all looking forward to beating up or anything.

"I've never been. It's going on the list," she decided. "But sure, I can book a vacation for you...two."

Not that Robin was going to book the most romantic vacation she possibly could. Hey, part of it was transference, part of it was her own amusement.

"Try to keep it simple," said Cable, who was fully intent on this being an utterly platonic vacation.

With possibly a brawl or two. Just to keep him from getting bored, and the people from being bombed... "Also, I don't believe I had the time to wish you good luck with your new appointment."

He was so going to miss having Robin around. Paperwork wasn't good for boredom.

"Thanks," she said, smiling softly. "It's not permanent, you know. I don't think so, anyway. But holy crap it's a huge opportunity."

"It's an international job," Cable said, "It's a good opportunity to expand your horizons. Although there might be some element of culture shock." He paused, crossing his arms. "But that's always a part of it." Hey, it could be Russia.

"Yeah, the only Japanese I speak is like, 'konichiwa' and 'Tamagotchi,'" she admitted.

"So take the time to learn," he replied. "Explore the country, if you get the chance..."

"Oh, I plan to," she said happily. "I'm based in Tokyo, but once I learn my way around, you wouldn't be able to stop me."

"Let me know if you find anything interesting," Cable said, a slight smile on his face. "Japan wasn't half-bad."

"Will do," she said with a small smile. "I've never been there before, so I'm actually...fairly excited."

And sad, but that was secondary and always had been.

"As you should be. There's few things as important as learning to understand the way the rest of the world functions, thinks, and dreams."

Ah, cultural diversity, and the recognition thereof: it was a great helping hand where it came to progress. He paused.

"So what is the job?"

"International correspondent for a Japanese-based network," she said easily. "The name's Japanese so I can't roll it off the top of my head yet."

"You'll get the hang of it," he assured her, "Or score high on YouTube..."

"Probably both," she admitted, grinning.

"I'll keep an eye on the internet," he assured her. "Where would we be without blackmail material?"

He wasn't a complete stick in the mud. Just a little evil.
