Covent Garden Flowers, Tuesday

It was Remembrance Day and the only reason Ino even knew that was because poppies were related and it had come up while she’d been poking around on the internet for stuff that flowers meant in this world.

The poem was... expressive. She’d actually printed out a copy of it and was mulling over how it was interesting that here, in this world, a flower that meant either pleasure, or consolation to her, was used to represent all the death from a war she didn’t know enough about to understand.

Reno had something large and purple in his dorm room closet.

Large. And purple. And disturbingly happy. And he was starting to want it gone.

So he was going to hunt down Ino to see if that could, perhaps, be arranged for after Radio tonight.

"Yo!" There was a pause. And a bit of a stunned silence. "Shit, there's a lotta flowers here, ain't there?"

The novelty would wear off, someday.

You mean he wasn't becoming more fond of Smoochy? Gasp!

"Just a few," she said, grinning a bit at that before remembering what he'd told her about his world, "though guess it's different for you, yeah? What else would you expect from a flower shop?" Lightly!

"Flowers," Reno replied, sheepishly. "See me be all shocked. Next, you're gonna tell me I can buy a bouquet of somethin' on less than two month's wages, zoto."

No, this wasn't a shock. He'd purchased flowers in this world before.

Still novel.

"I got a proposition for you, Ino."

"You can," she said mock-solemnly, "and if you're nice I can even get you a bouquet that means nice things and looks pretty."

Ino was a snob when it came to flowers, yes.

Her eyebrows shot up in deliberately calculated shock. "Oh," she said obviously amused and teasing, "gee, I don't know--don't you have a girlfriend already? Don't want her mad at me, you know."

"Yeah, I ain't in the market for gettin' Rikku upset. But you could buy dinner for me if you really wanted, yo." He had to stick out his tongue there. Just to show he was being a twit. "Tell you what, you sell me a nice bouquet... thing. Somethin' that means... I dunno. Sunshine and rainbows and baby chocobos an' shit. And I'll let you take the first shots at the rhino, yoto."

That was totally getting her to stick her tongue right back out at him. "I'm in Ghanima-sensei's class too, geez. It ain't going to work on me." Loftily.

The rhino. Her grin widened. "We do still have that," she mused, ~~and the mun apologizes for being such a spazz and so forgetful lately~~. "When did you want to pull off Rhino-killing?"

A beat.

"And I don't got a flower that means baby chocobos but I can totally see what else I can come up with."

"It was worth a shot," Reno mused with a grin and a shrug. "Anyhow, I got Romeo's birthday to go to, before Radio tonight. There ain't nothin' sayin' we can't kill the Rhino after the broadcast, though, if you're up for it."

It meant that they'd probably miss the fish thing, but it sounded like the fish thing was happening during the party anyhow. So. Busy day. ~~And the mun says it's totally okay, as she is a flake who works evenings, so we're even!~~

"Somethin' fluffy and yellow, then. Is there such a thing as a fluffy flower? There ought to be, yo."

Really busy day. It was funny how that worked out.

"Romeo's party for me too," she said, wandering over to snag a flower, "but I should totally be up to it."

Ino held up the flower. "It's a dahlia," she told him, "and it means either 'Dignity and Elegance', or 'Forever Thine'. Fluffy enough for you? Or did you want something more dandelion fluffy--though that's less likely to be found in yellow, just saying."

Reno's mouth kind of hung open a little as he gaped at the flower.

"You got that thing in orange, too? Orange would make you a freakin' winner, zoto." Well. It would. "So. You got any creative ideas for our purple rhino friend?"

"At the moment it's mostly 'death by playing cards' 'cause it's easy enough and, come on, death by cards would be painful," she admitted, setting the yellow flower back, and taking up two different orange ones. "And how 'bout this one? Or this? Both dahlias, still."

"That one. That second one. Holy shit, yes, that second one. Lots of 'em. With... things that clash or whatever. You know? Rikku-things." Reno could get into this whole... choosing flowers... thing. "Death by cards, huh? Never tried to give a rhinoceros a paper cut before. Could be fun."

"Well," she said dryly, "when you can embed a card so deep into a tree that you can't get it out again, I'd say it would hurt, yeah."

She gathered a bunch of the dahlias, bringing them to the counter before, bouncing over to pick out a few orchids, "these ones mean 'beauty' and 'love' amongst other things," and another brightly coloured flower. "What do you think?"

Reno was still gaping at the bouquet.

"I think you're gettin' a tip, zoto." Yes. Yes he did. "And, you know what, you gotta teach me that trick. With the cards. 'Cause daaaamn, that sounds useful."

Reno was thinking of past poker games gone wrong back in Midgar. Could have used playing cards of death back in the day, that was for sure.

That got a pleased little smile.

"I like flowers," Ino said, grinning, "and they like me. My parent's own a flower shop back home, so yeah, totally used to this. Did you want the flowers for delivery, or just have me wrap them neatly for you to take with you?"

A beat.

"And, well, I can try? Everything's got chakra, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Sokka knows a bit 'bout chakra, so I know it's teachable." She wrinkled her nose. "And no one's going to say I can have cards on me at all times, yeah? They're everywhere, so it's never hard to have a weapon nearby."

[And I'm completely crashing for the night omg. SP for great justice?]

"Deliver 'em, yo. Knowin' my luck, I'll find some way mangle 'em between here and the dorms."

These were flowers. And this was Reno. He'd step on them, or something. Wouldn't be a first.

"I got this firm belief that anything can be used as a weapon if you know what the hell you're doin' with it. And I got this goal- to learn what to do with whatever I can. So if you can teach me this chakra stuff, Ino, I'd 'ppreciate it. Thanks."

[SP for great justice! Night!]

"Totally not a problem," she said, sliding a card over to him along with a pen. "If you could just fill that out, please."

"And, again, not a problem," Ino told him. "I don't know if I'm the best teacher for it, 'cause Temari-san's a better ninja than me, but I am pretty good at chakra manipulation, so..."

[Night!]

Reno was now grinning to himself as he filled out the card, yes indeed. Off to Rikku it would go, la la la, and Reno was in quite the good mood, now.

"Well, I don't know Temari beyond that she opens Wellspring on my radio day, so you're gonna have to do." Reno finished the card and handed it to Ino, smirking.

"How sweet," she said dryly, even though part of her was stupidly pleased by that, as she took the card. "I'll do my best then."

"What can I say? I'm a sentimentalist at heart, zoto." He shoved his hand into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. "Should I bring the rhino with me to the radio station tonight, or you wanna meet me at my room after the broadcast?"

"Total is ~~handwavy~~," she said, ringing it through the register. "And I guess, your room? 'Less you think Jenny won't comment on the rhino."

It would be difficult to not say anything about a purple rhino costume, wouldn't it?

"Alright then, my room, after radio tonight. Be there, yo."

[I'll probably put up the post just before I start on Radio, for great SP-While-Broadcasting justice, if that's alright? With the party and all going on today, Long Radio will be Looooong.]

"To be fair," she conceded, "I wouldn't shut up 'bout it either if I were her."

It would be. Almost impossible.

"I'll be there." And that was a promise.

Reno grinned, paid, and offered another raspberry for good measure.

"Good. Bring the playin' cards, zoto."

And then, with a smirk, he turned and went.
