Jeff had just settled in behind the desk. Nothing weird had happened over the past week or so, despite weddings and parties, and he was starting to feel a bit more comfortable in his luck lately. After all, his mother hadn't shown up, either, and Turtle hadn't gotten drunk in at least a fortnight.

Even Nana was more subdued after spending the weekend with Chad. He imagined she'd get back to it in a couple of days, but as it was, his mostly anxiety-free self had no trouble with her at all-- just a very nice legwarmer.
