Ben wasn't planning on making a habit out of opening the store up on Fridays, but he just had his employee open up for the first time yesterday and he wanted to make sure that his less-than-strict screening process had worked out this time.

He looked around and decided that, yep, it had worked out. Feeling a certain relief, Ben took a seat behind the counter and started playing with that camera again as he waited for customers.

[OOC: Still looking for another employee for, say, Tuesdays. The store is open, but I'm off to work so SP until about 7:30 PM EST.]

There wasn't someone looking for a job, but he wasn't quite a customer either. "Hello?"

"Hi there," Ben said. "Can I help you with something?"

"Are you Ben?" And no, it so wasn't weird to call an adult by their first name. Really.

"Yep. If that was all you needed help with, then I'm glad I could lend my self-identification services to you," Ben said.

"Uh, not really," Teddy said slowly. "Miss York told me you were a photographer?"

"I know which way to point a camera and what button I'm supposed to press to take a picture," Ben said proudly.

That got him a blank stare.

"Um. Is that a no?"

"That was comedic understatement and you were supposed to laugh," Ben said. "But if you're going to expect me to give actual serious answers, I used to do some professional photography, but now I'm more of a hobbyist."

"Oh." Fandom broke him of many things. "Would you be interested in a job for the school?"

"When you say 'a job,' you don't mean 'teaching kids photography,' do you?" Ben asked. He'd spent so much of his exile getting TA work that he didn't really want to teach ever again.

"No, no, no, no. It's for one of the clubs. We wanted to do a calender to raise money for... stuff."

"What kind of stuff?" Ben asked, seeing a good opportunity for teasing. "If this is drugs, I'm going to have to turn you down."

... "Wait, what?"

"Hey, you've got to be careful when a teenager in a town that doesn't seem to have much crime comes around talking about needing money for 'stuff,'" Ben explained.

"Well, it's kinda dumb," Teddy admitted, even though it so wasn't.

"Okay, so, a calendar?" Ben asked, getting back on topic. "What would it be, school stuff? Football teams or whatever you guys have up there?"

"...well, we were thinking about what would sell and we though more in the shirtless variety would get the most money here."

And probably some boykissy, but that wasn't happening, no way, no how.

"Nothing I'd get arrested for taking pictures of, right?" Ben asked. "Because that's the kind of question that needs to be asked when a teenage boy asks you to take pictures of him and his friends without shirts on."

At that, Teddy did laugh, even if it was a bit nervous. "It's for charity?"

"And just confirming, we've established that 'drugs' is not a charity, right?" Ben asked.

"We wanna build a satellite to hang out in like in the Justice Pals," Teddy blurted out finally.

Ben managed not to laugh. Somehow. He wasn't sure how, but he pulled it off. "You're going to need to sell a lot of calendars," he said.

"It could happen around here," Teddy added quickly. "I mean, there's a lot of people from other planets around here and we could so build it with that kinda technology."

...Teddy needed to live in reality.

"Hey, everyone's got to have a dream," Ben said. "I'll do it."

"Awesome!" Teddy beamed at him. "I'll set it up with the rest of the frat for when this'll happen!"

"Just remember! No getting me arrested!" Ben said.

Teddy just chuckled. "I think the most of the students are more of a threat than the police here."

They all seemed... too nice.

"If these things literally cause a riot, then at least they'll have good buzz heading into their release," Ben said.

"Let's just hope for no riot?"

"I think that's a good plan," Ben said. "Just let me know whenever is good for your frat."

"Thanks!" A beat. "And welcome to Fandom!"

If the icon in the first thread looks like a crab, that's just LJ acting up again.
