The York Gallery [11/20]

Eve was pondering the holidays. She had no idea what she was doing for Thanksgiving and she really needed to decide soon. She also needed to see what, if anything, Adam was doing for the holidays.

She was still pondering this even as she opened the gallery, checked on the exhibit, and settled in behind her desk.

Coffee, tea, nibbles, and an Eve working on her holiday plans.

Jaina came by after leaving class, realizing that for someone who had no work or classes most days, she felt really busy. "This assignment has me discovering whole new places, I swear," said Jaina, looking around as she entered.

"I know, right?" Eve grinned. "And there's even coffee here, too." She pointed at the coffeepot. "Just made a fresh pot."

"I'm starting to sense you like the coffee," Jaina mused. "Call me crazy."

"I am all about the coffee love," Eve agreed. "An old boyfriend of mine used to tease me that I didn't have blood in my bloodstream, I just had caffeine."

"I'd like that to actually be possible. It's sad how happy I'd be to be that awake all the time to get stuff done."

"It'd fit in nicely with the depressingly overachieving streak that likes to crop up occasionally in me." Eve took a sip of her coffee.

"Got a lot going on?" Jaina wondered, going to pour herself a cup.

"Sort of," Eve said. "It's more the realization that this is my senior year finally setting in, followed by the realization that there's still a lot of stuff I want to do here."

"Yeah, I think that realization's going around." Not for her, but. "So what kinds of things do you still want to do?"

"Get to know more people, for one," Eve said. "It kind of hit me -- " Thanks to Johnny, but still. " -- that I really don't know many people around here."

"Yeah, that sort of thing tends to happen somehow," said Jaina. Though in her case, she'd just let most of her relationships lapse. "Time to start stalking common rooms?"

"That? Sounds like the best idea I've heard in ages."

"I have flashes of genius every now and then," Jaina said teasingly.

"Of which I heartily approve," Eve said, giving a thumbs up.

Ino... wandered in eventually.

"Oh, man," she said, wrinkling her nose at the place. "Seriously? People really come here to look at this stuff?"

Ino was... not high on art appreciation, no. Not unless she personally knew the person.

"We've had better exhibits," Eve assured her. "This one isn't one of my favorites." There were a couple pieces she liked, but overall? She'd kind of rather have another few weeks of the student exhibit.

"I'll take your word for it," she said dubiously. "'Cause, seriously, this is just a bunch of dark and boring photos. This is art? How's taking a photo art? Geez."

"It's not for everybody," was what Eve elected to say. "Art's rather subjective as is."

That got an irritable shrug. "Whatever," Ino said. "It's not like I care deeply 'bout this place or whatever."

"Not a big fan of the school, huh?"

...

"...the school?"

Oh, hi, awkward.

"Sorry, I thought you meant the school, not the gallery." Eve smiled uncomfortably.

"School ain't home," she noted, bored with that reaction. "But it's fun enough."

"What's your home like, anyway?" Eve asked curiously.

"Think Feudal Japan, but with television and a lot more ninja than this one seems to have had."

And, well, severe differences in government but Ino didn't feel up to explaining that.

"... that's an interesting mix."

What? It was!

"I like it," she said, with another shrug. "But, then, most people like their homes."

"Yeah, I suppose so." Eve frowned thoughtfully. "What's your favorite thing about home? And people count for the purposes of this question, too."

"It takes all kinds," Jaina greeted her with a wave.

"And I'm not this sort," she said, with a bit of a shrug. "You?"

"Not really my thing," she admitted. "I appreciate that people do it, but that's about as far as I can go with it."

"I just can't care 'less I know them, you know? This just seems... well. Silly."

And other stuff.

Jaina shrugged. "I know people thought some of my hobbies were silly," she said. "I don't get it, but I tend to try to leave it at 'mutually not getting it'."

"That's a nice non-answer," she said, rolling her eyes.

She raised an eyebrow. "I didn't realize there was a question."

"No," she said, very dryly. "It's only another way of saying 'please shut up before you piss someone off' and that's a non-answer 'cause I don't care if people don't like my opinion."

"No, it's my only way of saying 'I don't get it but whatever,'" Jaina said. "I would have just told you to shut up before you pissed someone off if that's what I meant."

"Makes you rare if it's true," Ino sing-songed. "'Cause, 'course, now that I said that's what I thought you'd deny it."

Blue eyes gleamed. "People do, you know."

"Life's too short to fake nice in every day life," she explained. "Way too much time gets wasted saying things you think people want to hear. I don't see the point."

Yay, I remembered the Thursday post this week!

Also, I can't for the life of me remember Jaina and Ino's schedules, but their muns are totally welcome to throw them into this post.
