Coyote Medicine

Coyote had done a bit of research on this whole "Thanksgiving" thing and had come to the conclusion that it was a holiday all about the White Man giving the Indians a turkey.

He could get behind this concept.

Don't mind the continuous lip-licking, please. He's just thinking about the turkeys.

Momoko skipped into the shop, hoping for ideas for gifts. "Hi Mr. Coyote! I came by to see what kind of things you sell in your store! It's nice to see you again," she smiled, completely forgetting that the last time she was here, she was in a Halloween mask. "Uhm... Can I ask why you are getting turkeys dropped off here?"

Coyote thought nothing at all of the fact that he didn't recognize the girl's face. He just thought it was about time someone recognized him.

"It's almost Thanksgiving," he explained. "I want to make sure people know where to put them."

"Ah! That makes sense! So you're going to sell turkeys in your store then? Are they going to be live turkeys?"

". . . Sell them?" There was an idea. "It's more fun to eat them, though. And I don't know. Are they usually?"

Momoko had to think about this. "Well. I'm not from America, even in my world, so their Thanksgiving isn't really a holiday I know much about. I know that people do cook them and eat turkeys when they celebrate it. But I've never seen anyone actually buying one." She scratched her head. "I don't know if they buy them live or not. I don't think I could kill an animal that was alive."

"It's actually not that hard."

She nodded. "That's why I shop at a store. Some people are better at things than others, and since I do like to eat meat, I buy it already dead." She paused. "Fish I can kill, though. They don't have big sad eyes. But only for food!"

"They have little sad eyes," Coyote agreed.

"Now you're trying to make me feel guilty for fishing, and I like fishing!" She rolled her eyes at him. "By the way, how come you don't know if they're live turkeys if you ordered them?"

"Why would you feel guilty about following the natural order of life?" Coyote asked. He waved off the ordering question.

"'The natural order of life?'"

Coyote nodded. "Eating things. Plants or animals, it's all life and you have to eat life to be alive. Natural."

"Ah. Yes, that's true." She nodded. "But I don't want to look the animal in the eye and wonder if they have a family that will miss them."

Coyote shrugged. "Animals understand the way of the world. It's people who get it confused."

"That's a great way to think of it! It really does seem like that when you watch nature, too." Momoko agreed. "Like how animals don't kill each other just for being there? Even if they're ones that eat each other! But I still don't think I could kill unless I had to, though."

Coyote blinked. "Of course not. But you do have to eat.'

She had to laugh at that. "Oh, I eat. Believe me! But I am very glad that there are stores that carry food so I don't have to get it myself!"

Coyote supposed he could understand that. He was, after all, prone to laziness, himself.

"Then if I get some cooked turkeys, I'll share them with you."

"That's very sweet of you! Thank you!" Momoko again wondered why he didn't know the type of turkeys being delivered. Ah! Maybe someone else had ordered them? That would make sense. "If you get some live ones, could I come visit them?"

"If you'd like, sure." Coyote made a mental note not to eat the live turkeys in front of this girl.

"Yay! Thanks! I've seen chickens, but never a turkey. I guess you're not sure what day they're being delivered, huh?"

"Not really, no."

"I guess we'll just have to wait and see, then. I'll make sure to pop back in and check. I'm staying at school for Thanksgiving, so I'll be able to come into town that day. Are you even going to be open on Thursday?"

Coyote had no idea. After all, he wasn't the one who worked that day ~~and the mun would probably be afk all day~~. "Should I be?"

"Not necessarily, I just wondered. It's your store but sometimes stores are closed on holidays. If I came into town to visit your store and you were closed, I would have made a trip into the cold for no reason." She smiled. "So I thought I should ask."

Coyote nodded. That made sense. "Do you have a phone? I could call you when the turkeys are here. I'm very good with phones."

He wasn't.

Momoko rolled her eyes and gave her head a small knock with her fist. "Of course. Why didn't I think of that?" She found an old receipt and a pen in her bag and scribbled her phone number and name to hand him.

Coyote took it and looked it over.

Aha, the phone medicine. Excellent. "Would you like to buy anything while you're here?"

Now with added pumpkin and cranberry!

I had to stock turkeys this weekend. They were heavy and occasionally leaked on me.
