Mary was very proud of herself today. After cringing through a tv show about food that was semi-homemade, she'd marched into the kitchen that morning and made scones from scratch just to show Gunther that she could do it.

Tully wasn't going to be doing any heavy lifting or hard work today, but that didn't mean he wanted to just stay up in his room. So soon enough he came limping out of the elevator.

Mary noticed the limping. "Oh my goodness! What happened to you?" she asked.

"I stepped off a ladder onto a nail the other day." Tully explained.

"Oh, ow!" said Mary, flinching. "It hurts just to hear it."

"Yeah," Tully nodded. "Not a fun day. Plus the girl working at the clinic probably thinks I'm an idiot."

"You know, there's a Doctor Tam who should be at the clinic on Thursday. I'd recommend that you see him," suggested Mary. "His sister used to be one of my best employees."

"I've met him. Good guy." He sat on one of the chairs nearby. "I think it'll be okay though. The kid seemed to know what she was doing."

"Yeah, everyone I've dealt with at the clinic has been completely competent," said Mary.

"So, how've you been?"

"I'm good," said Mary. "Just trying not to think too hard about the holidays coming up."

"Not a fun time for you?" Tully guessed. "Up for some fun on Thanksgiving anyway?"

"It's loaded with a lot of memories," said Mary. "Last Thanksgiving was when my boyfriend and I got serious. By Christmas, we moved in together. He asked me to marry him at Valentine's Day. And then he had to go home to join the family business and even though we tried to stay together, by Labor Day it was clear we'd drifted apart."

She tilted her head to one side. "You doing something for Thanksgiving?"

Tully winced. "Ouch, yeah I can see how that would not inspire good feelings for the holidays. But I'm having a cookout at the Lighthouse on Thanksgiving."

"Sounds like fun," said Mary. "I'll try to come. It'll be nicer than sitting at home by myself."

"That's what I thought too. Hence the cookout."

So I browsed the "semi-homemade" recipes on the Food Network site and I was horrified to see her listing condensed cream of mushroom soup as an ingredient for semi-homemade chicken soup.
