Coyote Medicine - Wednesday

Ichigo made it to the shop that morning and wondered exactly why he suddenly had a strange urge for turkey. He moved into the store, tripping over the box that stood right in the middle of the damn store. Ichigo cursed and the box... squeaked?

He moved back and prodded the box with his toe which resulted in another squeak. What the hell was going on here? And why was the box smelling like turkey? Not one to waste time wondering, Ichigo lifted one side of the box and promptly dropped it as something dark darted out from under it and disappeared behind the shelves of native artefacts.

"What the..." He stared at the box. "Was that a rat?" he asked the box and the box squeaked back. So... Did someone seriously try to trap rats with a piece of turkey? More importantly; Did they expect him to clean that mess because that was going to stink really fast.

Coyote Medicine was open, Ichigo didn't put the sign up however as he was busy trying to figure out if he needed to try to catch the rats or what.

Ino eyed the lack of sign, then the sandwiches and drinks she had in her hands.

...and decided that, hey whatever, if the door was locked she'd just have to deal. But if it wasn't, and he was there, she could complain. That was good enough for her, really.

"You're supposed to put the open sign on," she said, stepping inside and nudging the door closed with her foot. "And do I even want to know what you're doing this week?"

The box was still exactly in the middle of the store and Ichigo was sitting beside it on the ground, an ornament bowl in one hand and a sheet of paper in the other.

"What?" he asked confused, looking up at Ino as if she'd just grown a second head.

She stared down at him, nudging his knee with one foot. "You didn't open the store right if the sign isn't up. People are going to think you're closed."

A beat.

"And what're you doing besides?"

"The lights are on!" he pointed out, thinking that was obvious. "I'm um..." He looked down at the box. "Trying to figure out how to get a rat out of a box."

"You could still be closed," she insisted. "And why not just slide the box 'long the floor 'til you're at the door and then shove it all outside?"

He stared at her for a moment, wondering why he hadn't thought of that. Then he remembered.

"Because then I'm going to have turkey all over the store and I'll need to clean too," he pointed out.

"Cleaning it up is quicker than, you know, sitting with it all afternoon and failing to catch it," she said, rolling her eyes.

"And if you ask nicely, I might even help." Once she, you know, put the sandwiches down. Which she wandered over to the counter to do so.

"But who says it won't just turn around and run back inside?" he asked. "I can't leave it trapped on the street."

"Ichigo," Ino said in her best 'I can't believe I need to explain this' voice, "you shut the door behind you, lift the box off the rat, and then make sure it's not heading straight for the store." She shrugged. "And if it shows up again next week, or whatever, tell your boss to hire an exterminator."

"But they're cute," he objected. "I don't want it exterminated!"

"You only exterminate it if it keeps coming back," she said, folding her arms over her chest. "Seriously, come on."

"There's already one in the store," Ichigo pointed out, giving her a weird look. "You're impatient."

"I have an hour for lunch," she reminded him. "It's not like I can stick 'round for a long while. And if there's already one in the store, then what's the big deal 'bout this one?"

"I don't know? I just don't feel like chasing it around the store," he shrugged and got to his feet. "I'll figure it out later."

"Set traps to get them then," she said, sighing and heading for the desk. "Not all the traps are ones that kill them. Turtle & Canary ought to have the humane ones too."

He poked at the box and got to his feet, following her. "Maybe Coyote should have started with those instead of using turkey to lure them," he watched her. "Why are you annoyed?"

"I'm not especially annoyed," she drawled, wriggling her hot chocolate out of the tray and stealing the seat behind the counter. "I'm just not chirpy. There's a difference."

Ichigo should totally have a pet rat that constantly plots his demise. . . .
