The E in the sign over the door was made of shiny red and green toffee wrappers today, and you could find Eliza behind the counter beaming at a rather large bowl full of the stuff. Who knew there was a benefit to high-lacing boots besides keeping your shins warm?

Mohinder had ducked into the flower shop in the hope that it was a little warmer than weather he was becoming used to but still preferred to avoid.

He looked around. "Chocolates and flowers? You'd only need Hallmark cards for the hat-trick."

"Hallmark cards?" was Eliza's confused response, once she'd swallowed the toffee she was chewing. Mostly. Followed immediately by, "Hat... trick?"

"Greeting cards with holiday messages," Mohinder elaborated. "Usually emotional and sometimes in verse."

"And a sports metaphor for succeeding three times at something," he added, giving a half-apologetic shrug as he introduced himself. "I'm Mohinder Suresh, with more of a jargon habit than I thought to have."

"Ah, that sort of card," Eliza replied with a more knowing nod. "We've got those; people like to send them with their flowers, after all. So I 'spose I do have a tricky hat today. Usually there's not chocolates, though." She grinned. "I'm Eliza Doolittle, and very pleased to meet you!"

"A special occasion or a sudden attack of a sweet tooth?" asked Mohinder, leaning against the counter. "Pleased enough to offer to share?" he added. "And likewise, I'm sure."

"I found them in my boots!" Eliza chirped blithely as she offered the bowl.

"Left or right?" Mohinder wondered, cautiously picking out a securely wrapped toffee. "I hope you didn't lose your feet."

"Left. The right one had caramels." She laughed as the second thing he'd said hit her, though her eyes widened a bit at the thought that in this village it seemed entirely possible. "I wasn't wearing them at the time!"

"That might have been painful," Mohinder replied, only partially obscured by chocolate. "I take it this is another island thing, and your clothing doesn't usually dispense sweets."

"Not hardly," Eliza answered a bit sadly. It was difficult to be too sad when today was an exception, though. "But the sweet shop down the street does just as well. Just a bit more of a walk."

"It's probably better for your teeth that they don't," Mohinder replied. "Even if you have to walk for them. Is dark, milk or white chocolate your poison of choice?"

"I'm not, really," Mohinder protested, resisting the urge to check. "It's the ingredients, I think - or maybe food colouring."
