Trooper Station; Monday [ 12/15 ].
"Yes, ma'am," Daisy nodded as she cradled the phone between cheek and shoulder, her hand fiddling with the wrapping on another one of the small presents that had shown up on her desk, "I assure you, the troopers have done repeated sweeps across the island and there isn't a sentient strand of garland left. It seems to have been a one day occurrence, ma'am. Uh-huh. Yes. Of course. We intend to remain vigilant in case they come back. Uh-huh. Yes. Oh, yes, that does sound--Yes. Thank you, ma'am."
Daisy sighed as she hung up the phone, muttering something under her breath. She shook her head and turned to the some of the papers on her desk, setting aside the little gift for later. She hadn't opened any of them and they were accumulating on her desk, but she was saving them as hopefully rewards for when her work was finished.
There hadn't been any calls about the presents, so she had a pretty good feeling that she wouldn't wind up opening them and regretting it.

"How are you, yourself?"

"I'm not bad. I have some work stuff to take care of, but" -- she made a face at the bank of computers -- "it can wait a little bit."

Daisy gave a quick look at her progress and decided that, yes, now she could treat herself to opening up one of the presents, reaching for the one that look the most box-of-crayons like amid her collected spoils.
"And really," she added sympathetically, "there's only so much of action figures with kung-fu grip one can take at a time."
And, no, she wasn't really talking about action figures with kung-fu grip, and figured Sarah would pick up on that.

"Oh," she said, and didn't really have a metaphor to offer in return. "I know. I'm always surprised how much time it takes just to keep the stock up to par."
.... that worked rather well, actually.

Well. Daisy's life, really.
"So you two hung out and watched infomercials?"

But she didn't say any of that; she just smiled a little and said, "Yeah, actually. Once you wade through everything he says just for the sake of hearing himself talk, anyway."

She'd probably been making that much abundantly clear through her body language, anyhow.
no subject
And who knew? She could be wrong; she'd been wrong plenty of times before, but that never stopped her from believing it anyway.
"He is a pretty good guy, though. You just can't let him get to you. And I'd risk my left foot with how sure I am that he won't say anything, Sarah."
Not unless Sarah did something incredibly stupid. But Daisy had faith that Sarah wouldn't do that, either.
no subject
If he ever seemed to have that kind of access, Sarah knew what she would have to do and she knew Daisy wouldn't like it.
"I just wish I could figure him out."

"Maybe I am," she agreed, then, feeling as though the conversation was unlikely to make her stop thinking, she glanced at the computers. "I should get to work. Action figures to price, and all of that."
no subject
"We going to need," she began to ask, gaining a bit more of a grin, "another weekend out coming up here? Get your mind off action figures and landlords?"
And a little of that second bit for herself, too.

"Baltimore again," she agreed. "Once we've hit up every club there, we can move onto another town."

"Sounds like a plan," she said, moving back to the research terminals.
