Someone had been half-asleep when she turned on the shower.

As a result, someone had used all of the bottled water in her fridge trying to rinse eggnog out of her hair, to limited success.

Sarah's ponytail was still a little sticky as she opened the shop and set up for the day, and she kept grimacing at her own slight but cloying egg-and-rum scent.

Chad wasn't sure exactly what would be thought of a dog in the shop at first, but he hoped to explain it before it became a problem. "Hi," he lifted a hand to the blonde lady in a wave, golden retriever trailing behind him, "are you Sarah?"

"That's me," Sarah said, snapping to attention. "Need help with something?"

The dog got a skeptical look. As long as it didn't knock anything over, though, she supposed it wasn't worth kicking it out.

"Um, I'm Chad," he pointed to himself. "Teddy's boyfriend. This is Teddy."

He moved his hand toward the dog.

"That's why he wasn't at work on Monday. Thought I'd let you know that he wasn't, like, skipping work purposely or anything."

Sarah was stuck on the part where Teddy was the dog, and it took her a moment of staring before she could respond. "Hi Chad," she said slowly. "I heard things like this happened here."

She was still looking rather intently at the dog; hearing was different from seeing. "I thought maybe he needed the day off to study for finals, but, um, thanks for letting me know."

"...okay," Chad nodded. "Good. No problem. I should...probably get him out of her now, then, since I just wanted to let you know. If we stay too long, I'm afraid he might want to get something, and...well, puppy dog eyes. A lot harder to say no to when they're actual puppy dog eyes..."

Sarah nodded, yanking her eyes away from the dog to focus on Chad. "And our stock is kind of easy to chew on and damage, so ... yeah. Probably better he doesn't stay in the store all that long." She made an apologetic face at Teddy, just in case he understood her, before looking at Chad again.

"Do you know if he's going to be here the next two Mondays, or is he going home for break? I mean, if he isn't still a dog."

"I don't think even as a puppy," Chad assured Sarah, "Ted's capable of ever causing damage to a comic; don't worry. And....I'm not really sure. We talked about maybe going home for break, but with him as a puppy, I'm not sure if we still will."

"He is a really cute puppy," Sarah noted with a slight smile. "But yeah, taking a Golden Retriever home to meet the folks might be a little hard to explain." Even, she presumed, if the folks were aliens.

She walked around the counter to offer her hand for Teddy to sniff. "It doesn't matter. I'll make plans to open both Mondays, so tell him not to worry either way."

Teddy's tail wagged as he sniffed Sarah's hand. And might have licked it a little, although he'd be too embarrassed to ever admit it once he was feeling more himself.

"You can tell him yourself," Chad offered. "He understands you, even as a puppy."

Sarah raised an eyebrow at Chad in a way that suggested, really, she didn't get paid enough for this, but turned back to Teddy a moment later.

Awkwardly, she began, "Hi, Teddy ... Don't worry about missing your shifts. I'll cover for you until you're back to yourself," and followed it with a quick, light, pat on his head.

It was hard not to lapse into baby talk when you were speaking to a puppy.

Especially when that puppy was very cute and wagging his tail something fierce and even bouncing around a little, with an agreeing little yip of a bark.

Chad, meanwhile, needed to take a moment to come out of just melting over the adorableness. Not that anyone looking at him would tell. Anyone would most likely just assume he spaced out for a bit, shook his head, and came back to earth.

"Okay," he said. "Thanks. Come on, Teddy, we should let Sarah get back to work."

Sarah didn't usually let herself melt over cute things, but the Teddy puppy was adorable to a point where it could not be avoided. She was still grinning when she brushed herself off and stood.

"I do have restocking to do," she said. "But thanks again for bringing him by. See you both later."

Oh, she just had to mention restocking, didn't she? A part of Chad he could never really control kicked in before he could stop himself from saying, "Need any help?"

"Nah," Sarah waved him off. "Thanks, but it's been quiet in here. Go take Teddy to the park or something."

"Hey," Chad said, "that's not a bad idea. Cool. Thanks. C'mon, Ted."

Robin had a small wrapped present tucked under his arm as he came in. "Hi Sarah!"

"Hey Robin," Sarah greeted. "You;re a couple days early for your shift."

It was easier to talk to him if she didn't think about the felt frog thing.

"Oh I know, I just wanted to give you this." he hopped up on the counter, and held out the present.

Inside could be found a Meta forBatman keychain.

Sarah made a slight face at the present. "Robin, this is so sweet. I hadn't thought to get you anything yet," she admitted as she unwrapped it, then grinned at the Ratman keychain.

"You knew he's my favorite? Thank you."

"It was in the school paper. Merry Christmas Sarah."

Sarah didn't really like the holidays, but it was hard to be a total grinch when she got a gift. "Merry Christmas, Robin. Will you be taking any time off during your break?"

"I about two weeks. I'm going to go home for Christmas, and then spend some time with my Uncle in California."

There was a little sadness behind Sarah's smile, but she put it aside quickly. "Then I will expect you back at work in the New Year. Have fun with your family."

To be honest Robin was a little sad about going home. There was someone who should have been there that wasn't anymore, and it came across in his body language a bit.

"I'll see you then. I hope you have a good holiday too."
