Coyote hadn't even managed to meet all the old people in town, much less the new ones. Still, the cockroach had a point. It was his responsibility as a salesperson to ~~fleece the newbies for all they were worth~~ welcome the new students and citizens with ~~random crap~~ valuable wares .

And that was why Lloyd Commerce was here. If Coyote wasn't needed to sell the native stuff, then Lloyd was around to tell you about the wonders of the Miracle.

That's Miracle vacuum cleaner, of course.

Funny how Lloyd and Coyote never seemed to be in the store at the same time. Huh.

Remarkably dust free, today.

When you can find him. Maybe if you ask Lloyd nicely, he'll go look for Coyote in the back for you.

"Hey," Tony said to the guy in the store. Who was not a bear today, so that was probably good. "Is the manager here?"

Lloyd nodded, seeming to recognize the customer. "Let me go check in the back."

He headed out. Moments later, Coyote came back in.

"It's the Christmas gift guy!"

"Yeah," Tony smiled. "So, you're hiring? Can I fill out an application?"

An application? What a concept.

"Do you know about native cultures?"

"A little," Tony said. There'd been stuff in school, right? "Not so much the local stuff around here, but I can learn."

"You're hired! When do you want to work? I have someone Wednesday, Thursday and Friday."

That was easier than he'd expected. "I could work on Mondays?" he offered.

"Perfect! You can start next week!"

"Cool!" Tony was about to leave, then added, "I will get paid for this, right?" With this guy, he felt like he needed to ask.

Drat, he almost had him.

"I guess. If you insist."

"Yeah, I think that's going to be a requirement," Tony said.

"Okay, I'll pay you. And extra if you sell things!"

"Okay, cool," Tony smiled. "I'll be here Monday, then."

"Excellent!" Coyote paused. "What's your name?"

"Tony Foster," Tony said. "What should I call you?"

"Coyote, of course! You'll need to take a sweat. The lodge is free for employees."

"How do I... 'take a sweat'?" Tony asked.

"You take off your clothes and go to the sweat lodge in the back. There's instructions there. It's very important for purification purposes."

"Right now?" Tony asked.

"Well. Anytime before next week."

Tony nodded. "Okay, I'll do that."

"Good, good! Is there anything else I can do for you?"

"No, I think that's good for today," Tony smiled.

"Are you sure? We have excellent vacuum cleaners, now."

Lloyd might not know much about the tribal whozits, but he can sure sell a vacuum cleaner.

Or medicine.

Miracle Medicine, that is. Cures whatever ails you. Gets rid of screech owls!

Yeah, just to be clear? Lloyd Commerce is Coyote in smarmy white-guy form.

But the vacuum cleaners really are pretty good. Right up until that warranty runs out. Then they break down and explode.
