Momoko closed her Power compact after listening to her latest phone message, and shook her head as she pushed open the door and entered the Cafe. "Wow! I have been getting the strangest calls all day." She sank into a chair and grinned happily. "Hi hi, 'Deep Fry'! And how've you been today?"

"Getting the strangest phone calls, too," Warren grunted, nodding his welcome to her. "One of those days again, you suppose?"

It would make sense, really. He was at work, after all.

[Going to be off and on for a little while- today is garage-cleaning day, suddenly. o.0]

"Fandom being weird again, you mean? But I knew at least one of the people who called. Even if the message didn't make any sense." Momoko pondered the thought for a moment. "But that would explain the one message, where the guy told me to stay in my room and wait for him? He said his phone was messed up. Maybe they're on strike or something, now? Although the stabbing part I still don't get."

[No problem! My condolences; I hate cleaning garages!]

"That'd make sense, wouldn't it. Maybe the laundry machines didn't give the phones the memo that the strike was over." He paused, thinking that over. "At least, I hope it's over."

It... was over, wasn't it?

"It had better be over; that was so horrible! All of my clothes disappearing like that? I was down to my transformation outfit and a few socks by the end of the day on Friday! Oh. And the stupid gym uniforms. Apparently even the laundry machines have some taste. Luckily gym is the only class I have on Friday, so I just ran back and stayed in my room." She laughed. "I heard some people weren't as lucky! Did you get hit too bad?"

"I was left with nothing but a pair of cutoff shorts," Warren agreed with a frown. "Which wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't the same day as the club fair. I had to go there in just my shorts to let Rikku know I was going to keep writing articles for the Times."

Momoko tilted her head and squinted her eyes. No shirt, cutoff shorts, probably his angry growly face because something was messing with his stuff... her cheeks coloured a bit at the pretty picture her mind drew. She was sorry she'd missed that.

"Oh. Uhm. Yeah. Club signups. I did stop in long enough to sign back up for the Girls with Guns club and Flight club." Her phone beeped and she glanced at it with a sigh. Another message. "I like your articles; they're fun to read. I'm glad you're going to keep writing."

"It gets me out of the dorm room," Warren replied. "And it's probably the easiest way out there for me to complain and actually be heard."

See? Totally his reason for writing for the paper.

"Your phone, huh? If you need to reply to it, I can wait."

Sometimes, you just had to reply to the crazy people on the phone.

Momoko frowned and flipped it open to check the ID - not a number she recognized. "It's not you, obviously, or Rikku or anyone else I know here. Or home, either. That means it's probably one of these strange messages again. Hopefully it's not that guy wanting to know why I'm not in my room." She listened to the message and blinked rapidly. "Uhm. Okay. What did I do to deserve THAT?"

Warren raised an eyebrow.

"You know who it is? I can throw fireballs at them, if you want me to."

He needed the target practise anyhow, really. And he was in that mood.

Momoko blinked at him for a few moments, still slightly stunned. "Huh? Uhm. No, I don't know her." She straightened in her chair and glared at him. "Are all the adults in this world so immature and rude? I mean, so far one's called me a brat, another told me to go home and then another said my accent was fake. I didn't even know I had an accent! And now..." She waved her hand angrily at the phone. "This? Grrr! I have to call her back. Just a second..."

Momoko punched redial and at the beep, left a rather angry but PG response.

Warren listened to her leave the message, and was smirking by the time she was done.

"That'll sure show her," he decided. And then shrugged. "Would you like something to eat? We're in the right place for it, and maybe some food will help get your mind off the stupid people."

A pause.

"My mind, too, really."

"Stop laughing at me; I'm upset. I shouldn't have listened to that message. She was so rude and mean and no matter what, there was no call for any of it." Momoko folded her arms and fumed. "Any food will taste bad if I eat it in this mood. Tell me something funny or happy or something?"

"I'm not so good with funny when I'm in this kind of mood, either," Warren admitted. And really, he wasn't so good with funny when he was in a good mood, either. "Maybe if we ask nicely, the dishes will sing for you or something, though."

She turned to watch the staff as they moved about the Cafe. "We're going to have to remember to not be in bad moods at the same time in the future, then. Or carry around joke books." Although Momoko being in a bad mood was not something that happened often. "They do sing rather nicely, I've noticed. I wonder who thought to teach them?"

Warren gave his shoulders a shrug.

"I don't know. I have come to learn that they do take requests, though." A pause. "Unless your request is that they stop singing. They just look at you oddly and tell you that they never learned that one."

This answer usually resulted in someone getting burned. Which, they insisted, was somewhat reminiscent of their old boss.

"..." It took a moment, but Momoko couldn't help laughing at that. He was so serious when he said it, too!

"Okay, now that was funny!" She finally managed, smiling at him full force, the stupid phone message forgotten. "Thank you! I feel much better now!"

And her laughter, of course, got Warren smiling as well.

"Good to hear. So, are you hungry at all? I'm sure we can pester the dishes to get you some cake or something, if you'd like. I'm sure it'll taste just fine, now."

"Cake would be wonderful, yes! And with you smiling too, I am sure it will taste extra delicious. Eating happily with people you like is the best flavouring."

"That and dark chocolate raspberry, hm?" Warren instructed the cheese-grater to go and get two slices of cake. "I might be a food-heathen, but at least you're teaching me well."

He took a seat. Hey, look, it was conveniently break time!

"Well, of course, dark chocolate raspberry, but I was speaking outside of that." She waved away his comment with a grin. "And obviously someone has to teach you the proper way to appreciate food so you'll stop being a food heathen. You can't go through life just eating and not tasting! You'll miss out on such wonderful things! And who better to teach you than me?" Her eyes narrowed and she grinned playfully. "And if you name anyone, I may get upset again. Unless it's a chef. A famous one."

"Well, then we're probably both fortunate that I don't know any famous chefs off the top of my head." He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table and smirking. "And even if I did, they'd probably lose patience with me and take off running in the opposite direction. You're coming out on top, here."

"Good. If I had a plan I'd say it was working." Momoko smirked back.

"See, the fact that you never had this planned out just proves that you're a natural," Warren mused. "You've made your way to the top of the list, and you weren't even trying. That's got to count for something, right?"

"Or, it means that I am the only one stubborn enough to put up with you." She stuck out her tongue. "But I think it's more that I like being around you and if that's going to happen then you need to be turned from your heathen ways. I mean, if people found out, it would damage my incredible reputation! I'd never be allowed in a good restaurant again!" She raised her hand dramatically to cover her eyes, then peaked between fingers.

"Except for here, of course. I believe the cheese grater likes me for who I am, not my palate."

"He's got good taste, too," Warren decided, sitting back as the cheese grater brought them each their cake, flashed them his winningest grin, and gave them a sweeping bow before heading off to pretend he was working again.

"He's also a showoff."

"It's okay to admit you're jealous of the hat-thingie, you know." Momoko took a bite of her cake and winked.

"I don't think I'd be caught dead in something that looks like that," Warren replied, shrugging as he reached for his fork. "Okay. So I'm supposed to taste this, huh? How long am I supposed to take before I'm allowed to, like, chew?"

He was trying!

There was possibly muffled giggling.

"It's not like that all the time. This is cake! You have to chew it! Just take small bites at first to get an idea of the flavour. Then you can devour it. If you eat it too fast at first your taste buds get used to it and you can't really tell anything other than it's a cake."

At that, he almost chuckled, actually.

"I should almost be taking notes, I think. At this rate, the only thing I'll be able to eat with confidence is going to be Chinese food."

She swallowed another bite of cake and shook her head. "The key is simply to find the way to get the most out of what you're eating. If all else fails, just chew slowly. It's about paying respect to the person who made it."

Momoko pointed her fork at him. "Even Chinese food you want to be able to taste the flavours, right? It's why the cooks bother to use spices at all! And you said that about eating with forks versus chopsticks, which is totally because the metal changes the flavour of the food from how it was intended."
